I would not mind grinding our 100 elite version EDC's between drop rates, it keeps the drop the way gozer likes it and gives us a steping stone to get them between drops.

Oh pardon me. I am no longer concerned WITH how Gozer likes it. I've already done well over 300 runs and only have one mark XII to my name. And that's after all of the survivability, adapting to tactics, AND reaching optionals on elite. The drop rate NEEDS to be revised. I've said this before. I'll say it again. REVISE THE DROP RATE OR GIVE US A WAY TO BUY THEM WITH EDCs!
Grinding on end game is a real good way to get me to leave. I'm not threatening. I'm not flaming. I'm stating fact. The drop rate needs to be REVISED.
I agree with changing the drop rate or even fix it so you can earn with edc's or .......... I've done may runs having both Vet sets and seeing most have done over 400 runs and not a single elite drop is very depressing to try for the elite set.

oh i know how you feel, im only 32 runs in and only gettin the rare/proto salvage not one tech piece yet, im just saying a compromise between the two is all, with the elite specific edc's you WILL get your gear since they will drop more often and the protoypes should be changed to orange/yellow status to indicate thier rarity instead of staying at purple level display and not having the same drop rate if its to stay, else ye i do agree the rate needs to be adjusted to match rarity level.
Well thats the problem people have stated several times that there loot drop has allways messed up ever sence they first started , they have had to fix it multiple times and they just wont lisen to people, I learned real quick way back on tribble when they where trying to get the stfs set up right every body was havent an extreamly hard time getting through them and gozer posted he watched a group do them with white mk ix gear i seen then wasnt any need in trying to comunicate with them , I mean it would be fine if the drop rates would not mess up but i been here sence the begining and i have never seen the drop rates stay the same they are allways messing up. I have ran about 200 stfs sence it was sent over from tribble and have gotten 2 tech peaces so i can imagin how bad it is on ellite.
The drop rate is horrible and can take forever to get!
It should be set up something like this.
I You have to both mk XI sets for ground and space then have the option to give back 1 of the mk XI peices along with edc,s (and i wouldn't care if it was 100 edc,s) for the MK XII peice 1
EXAMPLE I give back my MK XI MACO ARMO AND 100 EDC's and get MK XII MACO ARMOR.
Example: the ablity to exchange Data chips & or rare, prototype salvage.
as much as i agree with OP, drop rates wont change. gozer has said on numerous times he wont change it. its obvious hes stubborn, pig headed, doesnt play the game like we do, and could care less about what we have to say. its pretty obvious, to me at least, that he has an elitist attitude towards the player base and his way is the only right way, everyone else be damned.
Dev one: "The players are starting to complain about not having any new content ... again. What should we do?"
Dev two: "I got it. We will make a few new items of equipment. Then, we will make them all "must-have" by nerfing the existing equipment in game. Next, we will make it so.. *chuckles*.. make it so.. lol. Oh yeah, I was saying we make it so the new high end items will take months to get. That will keep 'em busy."

I would be fired in my job if I did that to a customer.. maybe he needs to find another line of work.. like working for a major bank... they have those types of mentalities in abundance.
I posted this in another thread, but thought it might also be relevant to this one. The below information is my opinion only based upon hundreds of STFs and my experience.
In anticipation for going into the Elite STF in the next few months I have been playing all my space dallies at the elite level. I figure I have no business stepping foot into an Elite space STF without proper training.
When you have mastered the shallow end of the pool then you may go to the deep end and not before.
Thank you, sir. You have just made those who have played hundreds of games trying to get the elite gear very happy. Nothing is more frustrating than someone who just rushes into an elite and FUBARs it for everyone.
In normal mode, you can spawn all 4 cubes in KA space. In elite mode, there is a distinct order to things.. spawning 4 cubes will definitely cause the optional objective to completely fail, thereby ruining chances for better gear.
Speaking from my experience in STF Elite space missions... I have found the following things to be true to get better gear.
That you don't die at all during the elite.
Optional is "optional". You may be out some gear, but the clock matters more. Use the optional clock as a guage to better your chances of getting proto tech.
The more time it takes you to complete the mission overall, the lesser the rewards. Even if you don't meet the optional, the clock is still running, and the quality of your rewards are decreased by every second wasted. Think about how long it takes to kill Donatra with weapons only, but you throw some theta radiation at her and some energy syphon drones.. she'll go down hard and fast. People just don't think anymore these days. An elite doesn't have to be difficult, but the clock does matter. It is the difference between spending 20 minutes killing Donatra and 3 minutes killing her-- same with all other bosses like tactical cubes. Energy syphon drones and theta radiation cripple them and bring them down quickly.
The optional is 15 minutes, but in my experience, if you can complete the total game within 20 minutes, you'll get some good gear.
That you are teamed with a group who knows what they are doing to help accomplish 1 thru 4 which is why I loathe pugs who just rush in and do whatever-- it wastes everyone's time.
Even if you completed all 5 steps above successfully, someone on your team is not guaranteed proto tech gear depending on if cryptic has some type of code that only releases a proto tech drop every 3 hours for a team that can meet the above criteria.. but still MUCH BETTER chances than playing 100s of games, right? I have no real way of measuring this one because they occur so infrequently.. so I was just specifying an additional curve that Cryptic may have thrown at us.
That's it.. that's all it takes to get proto salvage or 2 rare salvages..and on more rare occasions, proto tech despite it being a random drop. Think of it this way.. if you accomplish all criteria above, you have a 20% chance of getting proto tech per game and a highly increasing chance that you will get it in 5 games, though not reaching 100% because of the random drops and any code cryptic has inserted such as a time delay for when the game releases proto tech. I would think that is a better chance than working with shotty pugs for 100s of missions and not getting a single proto tech item.
I can say all of the above because of the hundreds of STFs I have been through and simply analyzing the times when I got really good gear.
Someone speak up if this is not your experience and keep in mind the "randomness" of the drops.
Unless you have empirical evidence I call bogus on all of that. It has never been suggested or confirmed that performance is tied to reward quality, except for getting the optional objective and extra loot drop.
More likely it is psychological wherein the runs in which gave you good loot meant you were happy afterward, and so you tend to think you did really well whereas the runs with junk gear you are disappointed and thus you tend to remember it being a bad run.
One of the nuances of an MMO that keeps it interesting is the ultra rare, near unattainable, and pointless but cool items...
STO has not embraced much of this, and certainly hasn't embraced it as widely as it should... The more freakishly rare stuff, and rewards for obscure personal journey that they offer, the more mystique they create in the game , for every single player, not just the rare hunters and the uber...
Keep the hard-to-gets, hard to get... make more stuff that is hard to get for people who aren't teamers or fleet junkies, and you will have a better game for a longer time...
Greed, want, and coveting play a much bigger role in these games than anyone likes admitting...I say, embrace it...

I have the full mk XII set.. do you? I stated it was my opinion, so unless you have any empirical evidence suggesting it isn't true, how about we give a benefit of a doubt? Capiche?
All have some but not all of the sets. 1 toon I use the most has both sets of mk11 gears and 1 piece of the mk 12 set.
You do realize the rare drops are rare because they can count for 20-40 green thingees(mk 10-11) or are unattainable any other way. If they dropped more often they would ruin the reason for the stf loot. The reason IMO......there is no end content and this has to suffice for now.
In all seriousness though the drop rates are pretty consistent IMO..are they too rare? no
Some people will have a hard time getting these drops and others will get lots of them...thats the nature of the game and odds
There are, IMO, far more importand things the devs need to be doing then tweaking the drop rates which they haave already done.
People who claim it is too rare or the game should be fair for all are those who I lump into the category of EASY MODE and MAXIMUM REWARD for the most minimal effort.
These loot sets do not make or break the game......a mk12 wpn over a mk 11 is negligable and the borg set
and aegis sets are pretty spiffy too as are the lower tier sets which are easy to get.
As far as I know, its impossible to not die in the space STFs. The tac cubes consistently one shot everyone in sight, and I personally cannot fathom trying to tank torp spreads that crit for over 100k.
Would be really nice though if the drop rate was a little bit better, close to 300 runs myself, and no sign..

i consistently tank a tac cube on easy mode and survive. it take knowledge and skill and some luck. My cruiser is build to take a beating and survive. Resists and more resists and add a few resists. Consoles and skkills make this very easy.
When the mob is an elite I can hang in the fire fight for 10 secs easily(versus a tac cube or a raptor). Once i feel the danger i burst of speed and make sure i pop the last of my resists.
This also helps the team soo much?? Why you ask? i keep aggro and when i am running around at 15k or more the Elite cube is chasing me and ignoring the rest of the team. if a hapless tac gets the aggro back he dies quickly and his aggro meter is reset to zero...Guess who it is coming after? In the meantime my team mates are poundung away at the cube. I am guessing that as they die and I do not there aggro resets but mine stays at its current numbers. During a session of elite I grabbed an elite cube and held it the whole time bouncing in and out until the team was ready for it......they never once were able to get aggro off me.....
Many people forget the game can be played where you try to stay alive orver the idea of" i will respawn and fight on" This results in my ship fleeing....tightening up shileds and take a deep breathe and diving back in.
With the new wasys to use your skill tress my resists are more , even with diminishing returns, at about 40% and when the emergency hits WAYYYY over that.....I took a full spread of death from a tac cubes projectiles and lived......i do this consistently.
Peeps need to invest in better gear for their engineer consoles....some armor instead of weapon boosts or shield +35%.....i do not use those as a borg cube will eat those faster then anything and most often against the borg they are eating our shields anyways with that pesky drain...and in conjunction with the new DRAW AGGRO and slight resist buff this makes my strategy of kiting more effective,
the most oeffective way to combat a tac cube on elite.. hire a kdF klingon that has some pets that drain the shields......We have our kdf buddy do this at 20k range and the cube stays after the Carrier who is out of range...an elite tac cube with no shields drops like crazy.
one you have to have optional accolades first
then you have to get all accolades for mission
then akk service medals
I have all 3
you have to have 11 gear first minimal and that is fact
nut they are working on them
I do have 12 shields they are releasing just not alot
what I would like is
12 antiproton gear
I sure we will get it before fetured episodes hit
they are probably stockpiling it for a event fo all 3 STF's
what sucks for us is they are waiting for the freshy fish to catch up to be fair
IIn all seriousness though the drop rates are pretty consistent IMO..are they too rare? no
LOL. Like a guy winning the lottery saying the odds were ok.
Some people will have a hard time getting these drops and others will get lots of them...thats the nature of the game and odds
Which is the WORST POSSIBLE WAY to give out gear in an MMO. A reason all good MMOs have moved to a token system.
There are, IMO, far more importand things the devs need to be doing then tweaking the drop rates which they haave already done.
IMO there isn't.
People who claim it is too rare or the game should be fair for all are those who I lump into the category of EASY MODE and MAXIMUM REWARD for the most minimal effort.
People who are extremely lucky want to feel "special snowflakes" and making the gear actually attainable would stop that.
These loot sets do not make or break the game......a mk12 wpn over a mk 11 is negligable and the borg set
Aside from the fact that all XI sets look horrible.
Unless you have empirical evidence I call bogus on all of that. It has never been suggested or confirmed that performance is tied to reward quality, except for getting the optional objective and extra loot drop.
Of course it's bogus. On near perfect runs I still get trash like rare XI consoles and get prototype salvage on runs where they could've doubled the timer and we still wouldn't have made it. I bet there's a variation of Gambler's Fallacy that covers it.
Every MMO I play or have ever played has items that are hard to come by. I think the rarity of the said items is a bone tossed to the players who dobt mind a little grind....everything else in this game is soooo easy to come by.
I firmly believe that there is a class of gamers who believe by nature of paying a subscription they deserve the best gear possible with minimal effort.
Work or play hard and earn the rarest items in the game...it is simple as that.
Sorry after over 400 runs of stf I earned my one mk12 maco shield. It proudly sits in the bank collecting dust as I have a perfectly good mkII set that is far better.
I won no lottery,,I am just a few who have gotten lucky or even better yet,,played so many damn stf's that the law of averages was favoring me...or perhaps those chicken entrails did bless me......
You want t he best leap through the flaming rings and grind till you get one....
I really dun care if i ever see the other 2 parrts to the set....i got over 300k dilithium thus far from it...and that paid for my cstore items i was yet to buy with real money....for a while i had 125 of those protypes..,,,thats all they seemed to drop for me.
Work or play hard and earn the rarest items in the game...it is simple as that.
I have no problems working hard for something. I do have a problem with handing out endgame loot like this. Some people got the full XII ground set after less than 50 runs. How is that rewarding hard work?
I wouldn't even care if the XI sets weren't so fugly.
Bottom line, tech should be awarded by accolades. It's fair, takes a lot of work, and doesn't rely on luck. I know a guy with 400+ runs and no tech drops... How is that even close to fair with people that have run 100 and received all the MK XII drops?
All have some but not all of the sets. 1 toon I use the most has both sets of mk11 gears and 1 piece of the mk 12 set.
.
You are talking about standard issue MkXII and not Special Reserve Elite?
As far as I am aware there are only one or two players that can sport the MkXII helmet which is the full unlock for the ground set.
If you are talking about the standard stuff from Borg prototype drops then that is not what this thread is on about. We are talking about the Elite MkXII requisitions from prototype shield tech etc.
i think its not worth grinding to death until you have MKXII. Whoever says that he got the whole gear pretty quickly just had a lot of luck. I play since day 1 of those STFs and i only got 2 tech drops. Everything else by collecting EDCs. The MKXII gear is not that much better and might only give you an advantage for PvP, but as PvP is so bad in this game, there wont be a lot who actually gain anything from it. So most of them stay with PvE where MKXI is enough and once everybody has MKXI.. there is nothing more you can actually do because of the lack of content. Okay, we have this new episode but its only available at certain times and a bit confusing (to me at least). As a result, i do not play the new episode.
In the end, i think i will stop playing within the next 1-2 month because there is nothing more i can do (sadly)
Dev one: "The players are starting to complain about not having any new content ... again. What should we do?"
