Hey gang, just want to have everyone's input on what they think will be the NEXT big thing in MMO history or for that matter the NEXT BIG MMO.Note: Lets lay aside any talk of STO, WOW, RIFT, and TOR <-- Those MMO's already have tons of threads about their PRO's & CON's - (ONLY Exception - You can refer to their gameplay mechanics)
For Example: I like an MMO with the character customization of STO, the space combat system of STO, while incorporating the voice over features of TOR and a game interface of WOW, with lastly the lore of RIFT.This thread is unique in that I would like to see what everyone wants in a MMO and on what subject or genre : So for a good ground rule lets begin with:A) What will the next big MMO be based off? Movie, book, retro video game etc...
What Theme, subject, or setting you think the next BIG MMO will envelop?C) What would you like to see implemented in an upcoming MMO or what is your IDEAL MMO?
If you have links or sites that refer to Next Gen MMO's or projects, please share with us.
I believe poster Grand Nagus gave out a link regarding a possible Transformers MMO, that one seem very interesting. Though Hasbro is behind the project so I am kinda of a bit concern about that.

Fallout Online was killed due to Interplay giving up their rights to produce new Fallout titles (Bethesta might end up making one though).
However, with the way things are right now, I don't see any huge titles coming up anytime soon...
Interesting you should mentioned Fallout, I love the game and it has a strong premise. It can be viewed a bit on the side of Borderlands if it were to be realized as a MMO.
Though as far as Bethesta, they are a talented studio but are very well known for many bugs. So if I would think about a Fallout MMO, I would probably be concern about bugs and exploits. Though that is always been the issue with any MMO, just more so if it came from Bethesta.
But man I would love it, a Fallout MMO. That would be HUGE.
The one MMO that is coming out in 2012 that I am rather looking forward to is The Secret World. It looks like they are actually doing something different., instead of sticking to the WoW success formula.
You guys do know that Interplay untill very recently were developing Fallout Online, right?
I'm also saddened that the Stargate MMO bit the dust. That would have been the first mmo I'd be willing to sub. (I got the lifetime for STO and wouldn't have played it otherwise)
Yeah, but there have been licensing issues between them and Bethseda which means Fallout Online may well never take off.
It even had a website, although I can't find it now.
Thats because the reached a settlement with Bethesda, agreeing to stop selling Fallout games in Dec 2013, while not developing new games in the fallout series (wich includes a fallout MMO), at wich point bethesda is granted full control over the franchise:

Oh... cool... Yea, I could see this happen...
I want a char that transforms into a pony tank
That it does
It is a Funcom game, which brings with all kinds of negativity, but I think Secret War looks interesting. It is not just another WoW-clone, and it sounds like the developers have actually put some thought into planning it.
I'm just hoping that it isn't going to be based of that garbage on CN or the Hub. If I wanted to learn life lessons and know what not to do with my life I'd watch Jersey Shore.
Decepticons Forever!!!
But lets hope it's not based off of BW or Michael Bays joke either.
Last I heard, the designs were going to be based on the Prime characters; although rumor is they will include designs from ALL the Transformers contiunities (i.e., Sky-Byte might make an appearance). Other than that, little else has been revealed.
Yep every MMO is a "WoW-clone" just because devs decide put a quest marker above NPCs heads .
People who use the "wow-clone" phrase must be ignorant to the development of RPGS in the last 20 years or so when you consider the likes of Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Everquest all pre-date Blizzards game.
I'm sure if the The Secret World has quest marks above NPC's heads it will be another "WoW-clone".
If people ever wonder why Blizzards game is hated it's because the players constant reference to every MMO being a "WoW-clone" as if the game invented MMOs and single-handily changed the genre by putting question marks above NPCs.
Nothing is more untrue than other games being a copy of Blizzards cash cow.
PLANETSIDE 2 FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR THE NEW CONGLOMERATE!
End of thread
Overall I think TOR still has potential to grow into more then just a lore MMO and will hopefully create more freedom as time passes.
That would be pretty awesome.
Comand & Conquer Renagade.
As for Planetside2, I'm leaning heavily towards the Vanu Sovergnity.
The key word is HASBRO, which means the game would probably be heavily censored or controlled.
I have my reservation - though a "T" MMO is still interesting. I'm gonna have to wait for further reviews.
Hey you never know. B5 have lore and story in spades and thats an awesome ground work for creating the universe. As far as factions its all there in the package. All it takes is a company like PWE to see a gem before their eyes, trust me there are many diehard Babylon 5 fans out there.
On the same page I would love to see a Stargate MMO, it can be done, all it needs is a talented team of programmers, writers (that will not TRIBBLE up the lore), and artists. Good PR team and heavy Beta testers that will feed them input, and finally a solid publisher thats willing to invest.
"If you BUILD it they will come"
Typically an MMO that involves two aspects of gameplay, that being Ground and Space will suffer in one and be strong in the other:
I want to hear how a company can strengthen both the Ground and Space aspects of their SCI FI MMO.
My Opinion:
A) Must have a HUGE Team and the financial backing
C) Mechanics - having solid Ground & Space mechanics: for example - Imagine having the Ground mechanics of Voyager Elite Taskforce, combined with TOR & Planetside.
For space: STO space combat, combined with the functionality and strategy of Bridge Commander - with controlling dynamics of lets say command & conquer - sector space control would be akin to something along the lines of Guild Wars Faction Kurzick and Luxon control.
of course I am mixing multiple genres and gameplay - BUT - with the right team and proper programming a Sci Fi Game can be successful both in Ground and Space aspect.
It needs time, money, and dedication, first to its FANS ala Playerbase and to the Lore.
On a final note: You have to have a team to study the market to see if your ideal product (In this case an MMO), suits the general populace. Is the genre popular? Will it cost too much to capture your ideal target group (Teens to early 20 crowd) etc...
I'm fully aware that my taste would probably be a niche game as it's Sci-Fi, although most of the above is what I was hoping STO was going to be
Personally i'm looking forward to The Secret World as my next big MMO. I'm curious to see how the free form will work out as well as the Character creation/customization. I like the Concept that "everything is real" from the old ones to the Bogeyman and all the crazy in between.
Maybe the Marvel MMO if it ever really happens. I wonder if it will be more free form like champions or would it be more like DCUO. I like the action bsed game play, but the actual power sets were horrendous, especially given the fact you were supposed to be using the specific power sets of established heroes. I can make better DCU heroes in Champions than i can in DCUO.
As for what i would like to see as an MMO is Gears of War. It's such an interesting and Rubust universe that a lot of people would LOVE to see fleshed out more than just the Games (since most people don't read the novels/comics) I'd love to get some kind of Create a Cog feature with all the armor variations of the games as well as maybe weapons customizations. I'm just not sure what would be the best way to set up abilities.
I think Hasbro has done well for the brand, considering there's been a Transformers related product since 1996 (when Beast Wars aired and revitalized the brand). Yes, there have been some stumbling blocks (Energon anyone?), but the fact the Hasbro is still making money out of the franchise says a lot. Controlled... well, Hasbro has every right to control the name of one their biggest cash cows. As for "heavily censored..." have you seen Prime lately? Easliy one of the darkest Transformers series to date.
There was a stargate MMO in the works, but the company developing it went bankrupt.
graphics look stunning
