I wasn't expecting this for another year at least... It seems like it wasn't that long ago that Jackson was talking about taking another offer and the stuido had released the actors before filming because of the Tolkein family's lawsuit.
My wife is going to hate me by the end of next year. The Avengers, Spider-man, Batman, The Hobbit... I'm going to be dragging her through nerd movies all damn year (and it still won't make us even for Chipwrecked).
How long are these two movies? And then... how much longer are the director's cuts? (this is a 2-parter, right)?
From what I've heard, can't find the links so don't quote me on it, Jackson was going to put as much of the book into both movies. So my guess, 4-5 hours. I'm just hoping Smaug is done right.

Judging by LOTR, I'd say 2.5-3 hour theatrical versions are possible with Extended Editions running nearly 3-3.5 hours.
This should be epic and enable them to capture every detail.
