What about 1 or 2 days as compensation for lost game time?
I have lost much game time due to this maintenance breaks since they fall exactly into the time frame when I'm home from work
If were gonna be getting 3 scheduled downtimes a week they really need to start utilizing different times of the day each time.
At this point in time I can pretty well scratch off playing STO every Thursday and Friday from now until who knows when because of the maintenance.
I know they need to get the game as close to right as they can before F2P but this is getting old.
The game if finally worth playing again and half the time I'm available to play the game isn't.
Agreed - Branflakes even discussed the possibility of this in a thread earlier this week. This is what? 5/6 downtimes in a fortnight? Simply not acceptable by any standards.
Personally I like it that they are applying patches to bugs as soon as they have the new build ready instead of making everybody wait until the weekly patch time.

I bet they are patching while you're still asleet or at work/schoold/whatever?
HOWEVER... This is not just about patching, especially since it seems theres no patch for today... It's the obvious sign of poor management and bad techies wich is anoying.

With what? More gametime in what is a soon a "free-to-get-ganked-unless-you-invest-300-bugs-for-a-pay-to-win-ship game anyway?
What are you running as server, since it needs this much downtime? Mac? Commodore 64?
If that were a Mac server it would actually work.
I mean... 1 week after a major update I can understand that but we are several weeks after it now and AGAIN you shut down the server in the middle of the friday-best-time-to-play period here in Europe.
I mean really... to my knowledge there are SEVERAL testservers to ensure NOT to push broken builds like on thursday just to put down the servers on the weekend.
No it would'n, since STO is not build for Mac, and I honestly doubt the STO host runs on mac either.
The game is running fine on my mac. And since Mac is generally more stable then... everything windows relatet... But thats a completly diffrent debate...
No its not... It's disgusting and sad.
Well you now... after everything what happened arround here during the last month... I'm over being angry. Its a waste of energy. If I'd stay personally involved enough to feel any more sadness or disgust over how Crytic dismantles my once beloved game in basicly every possible fassion... I'd go crazy about something I cant change anyway.
I'm just here to kill some time until my TOR early access arrives, I can do that with Skyrim too.
Why bothering with, I comparison, a prety minor express of that already known incompetence?
With what? More gametime in what is a soon a "free-to-get-ganked-unless-you-invest-300-bugs-for-a-pay-to-win-ship game anyway?
Right, just forget about this . A small Dilithium stipend could do the job, too.
But as shown on more on one ocaasian love to kill the game during prime time sessions so subscribers are runnign away from it.
While it is annoying, especially since I'm from the UK, i dont mind them running maintenance and or patches. Anything to clear down the bugs and make the game more stable.
Also with the Christmas Holidays and New Years, i would think Cryptic will be running on limited staffing levels, so its better to have these out of the way rather than the servers slowing or even going down during this time and it taking a whole day to get back to normal.

Well.... suscribers are running away because of things like the respec issue or "the bug" anyway. They dont care. At all.
They care for the f2p people that are coming. Not about the current comunity, if it was for cryptic, we could all leave... well... major part does and did that.

Well...
1. Last weeks downtime was not about stability. It was to avoid an "exploit" that gave people after A LOT of work a MINIMAL chance to get a red gift without paying in C-Store for it. For they did put down servers in our primetime for hours.
2. Patches for stability could easly be avoided by doing it right IN THE F**** FIRST PLACE. They had the chance to do it right yesterday or in ANY of the other felt 2000 downtimes during the last weeks.
I don't understand users. They have an issue with Cryptic not fixing bugs and when they do they also have an issue. It is annoying but at least they are finally doing what we pay for.

Trust me, you can test and test until the cows come home, but you can't work out all the kinks with a system as complex as an MMO until you see how it reacts under production load.

Entitlement, that's what it is. People want to have their cake and eat it, which (short of getting a replicator) isn't possible.

Then get it in their heads to actually LISTEN to those that play on Tribble, instead of brushing us off.

And I dont understand users who dont get that abvoiding bugs by keeping the server down is not a very helpfull way. And users who dont get that 1 downtime is usually is enough to fix bugs. And users who dont get that there are TESTING servers where builds can be... you guessed it... TESTET to avoid bugs going live in the first place.
God, what are you people complaining about? Cryptic should be praised for shutting everything down every other day and letting things cool off. Even if they're just opening up server boxes and firing cans of compressed air in the heat sinks to clear out the dust. These downtimes (for all they affect a few people when they happen) make the game run better for everyone.

Its not about entitlement. Its about product. Paying customers pay for a product or service and they expect it to work and be useable. The down time lately has been overdone.
IF you buy a new car do you expect it to need repairs at some point? Yes but every week or twice a week?NO! Same for a game people spend money to play a game we should be able to. Not have it go down several times a week and during the prome time for most peoples play time.
This is just one reason I cancled my sub. I will still be here though as F2P. Then if it goes down I cant copmplain Im not paying for it just using it.
Entitlement, that's what it is. People want to have their cake and eat it, which (short of getting a replicator) isn't possible.
Unfortunantly. The vocal gamers are somewhat infamous for having some of the most twisted sense of entitlement known to humanity. If they buy a game, the expect to get everything and anything they want from it at all times. If they don't, it's somehow their duty to rant and rave and complain about it because "I paid money" for it.
So Cryptic does some patches every few days for a week. So what? It's not like you're suddenly going to be missing a whole lot for 2-3 hours of the day. Go talk to your friends, your family. Something. STO isn't such a difficult game that missing a few hours is going to matter.
Heck, I just use the downtime to get some extra sleep somedays, or something. Do I wish the downtime was during sleep? Sure. Does it bother me? A little. Do I honestly care if they're bring the server down to fix, or add things? Hell no.
for all they affect a few people when they happen) make the game run better for everyone.
Its Europes main gametime... here it will be 19:00 until the customers can play. Sorry man, but thats not right and false planning... dont know any other mmo/rpg that makes such plans...
does that happen often? i mean, i will not subscribe another month, if they going to make that happen more as that two times. why should i pay for a game i cannot play in my choosen time. i will not sit there until night because on day the servers are down...
Trust me, you can test and test until the cows come home, but you can't work out all the kinks with a system as complex as an MMO until you see how it reacts under production load.
Exactly.
Look at Microsoft. They can send out windows update to fix bugs every week. Even after being tested by a vast team of engineers and testers.
How can you not expect a small company like Cryptic to have the same problems?

The reason is that Microsoft works sloppy and incompetent too.
Just to... again... point at Mac... you can like it or not... where systems work stable and permanent updates are simply not needet because someone paid attention to what he did BEFORE.
Its simply a poor excuse for working sloppy by pointing just because someone else works sloppy too.

Apparently...,
So are They...

You know that some of the guys playing your game is still paying right? (I know not me... but stil...)
We know you want to scare away regular subscribers, but this is redicilous. (And in "we" I mean the group who IMO can see the obvious).

Time warp ... They are using a decommissioned NASA shuttle to slingshot around the sun to go back to yesterday to perform server maintenance.

The maintenance is indeed for Friday, December 16th.
Thanks for the catch!
