I am trying so very Hard to Love , or Like , or Even Tolerate ,the new gear sets.
It would be easer if these new gear sets were not geared more for kiling Players than the Borg ,which they were intended for.
There has been much " flammage " on these forums about thes gear sets .
Mostly about the lack of visuals , and clipping issues.
Not about Functionality.
I propose the following .
A Craftable Gear set , focused to fighting the Borg alone.
There is AGEIS for ships , now meet NEMISIS.
Ground set , craftable at Memory Alfa, or Qo'nos forge.

This nails two birds with one stone. I like it.
I like the idea of a craftable ground set but don't you think all those bonuses you suggest might be a little overpowered even for Elite STF? With free abilities and the crazy heal with all the other stat bonuses it kind of sounds like God mode. A craftable set shouldn't be more powerful than the grind set because if you can craft something that awesome why grind borg STFs?
Well, the most interesting part of the new sets are clearly the visuals. Unfortunatly we have this unpleasent issue, that MK XII sets are needed to unlock them fully and only the Omega set looks good in its MK XI variant.
The stats of the Honor Guard and Maco sets are ok (not overwhelming compared to normal stuff, but ok) and the Honor Guard weapon is probably the most useful of the 3. The only real issue I have is with the Omega set and I can't stretch it enough. Whoever came up with an armor that is not Polyalloy or Energy Dampening against enemies that tend to grill you with their plasma weapons should take another look at the game mechanics. And now my favorite, the Antiproton Autocarbine. Really Cryptic? Your super duper special elite troops for fighting an enemy that adapts on a per shot basis are equiped with burst weapons?
So my take on the question why to grind is, clearly for the visuals. Unfortunatly the best looking MK XI set is also the least effective for fighting Borg. On the other hand, as ProfHat said, the Omega Set is absolutly devastating against other players, so its not totally useless.

When your average tactical drone has three times the hp of any one player along with adapation ,which renders your weapon as usefull as throwing rocks, and that last room in infected sudenly having 12 heavy tac drones & simmons every little bit of damage helps.

The one single attribute of this set is , that it has NO VISUALS AT ALL.

cryptic does not have a succesfull history of redesigning stuff, at least not in sto. Crafting went from am mess to a easy as hell stupidity to a "not worth the material" thing.
Groundcombat went from "worst combat system ever introduced in a game" to a more or less boring activity.
If they could have listened to wehat the community wanted and suggested years ago, by now the game would be actually twice as entertaining as it is now.
Srsly, why not make all those ECD, Borg prototype etc crafting materials. You start out with the normal borg weapons MKX...then u get 10 EDC, u upgrade it to MKXI by crafting it.
Or leave out the upgrading part, just make the maco set a crafting set all the way. U farm the mats in STF's, then u build one, maybe even introduce R&G in the engineering section on your ship.
After nearly 2 years of constantly introducing stuff that sometimes was worse than the stuff before, i doubt anything will go into a better direction.
But keep posting the good ideas, who knows what can happen.

PPS: i know the game had to be realeased prematurely, because of legal terms. But in 2 years of "beta" that can't be seen as a satisfing result. (crafting, groundcombat, 3 stf's or content in general)

Presiecly ! A set proported for the use in combat against the Borg , so do exactly that , Kill Borg BETTER !
See having played through the STFs quite a bit now killing them better is easy enough with the shotgun, what you REALLY need for fighting (on elite certainly) is better survivability. A single tac drone shoting you in the flank will probably take you out unless you notice and act swiftly.

Sort of reminds of the borg ship console......However, with this:
1. Visuals (something very fancy and ultra-high tech)
2. Shouldn't cost EDC's etc. Should be mission, crafting or accolade based.
3. I could mention a few stat changes, however, I would prefer other comments on the matter.
As this is a Craftable Item , there would be no visuals , the only reason to get this unit , is for the Functionality of the unit at killing Borg , nothing else .
I bring this forward to post the following , an obect , singular , to be crafted , to bring a better functionality to that which is called " standard issue " Borg gear.
That gear at presant is sub-par at the mission at which it is tasked , killing the Borg.
The named gear sets that are available , are also sub-par at this mission, killing the Borg.

I put forth this , that any player at cap , should be able of killing any 2 tac drones , solo , without benifit of a team reguardless of where that team comes from .
The concept is great. We really need a craftable ground set, and making it pretty specifically anti-Borg isn't a bad idea either. But, realistically, Cryptic isn't going to want to step in the toes of its STF sets, so we have to approach this knowing that it can't be outright better than at least the Mk XII set items.
At the same time, why no visuals? I see no practical reason to limit that aspect. If it is, again, not to step on the toes of the STF sets, then make the visuals relatively minor; say, a set of chest gear, maybe gloves too, that simply layer over your uniform or basic armor visuals. Nothing that will replace or outright upstage the full outfit visuals.
You might also consider limiting it to Mk X, or else it might overshadow the Mk X versions of the STF sets, but I'm not fond of this idea, personally.

The Standard issue gear is fine, it's not perfect but the modifiers make this gear useful for fighting the Borg but because it's easy to get it shouldn't be as good against Borg NPCs as the STF gear.
I'm more curious why you feel that equipment that's easy to obtain, has bonus damage against the Borg and resistance against there main damage types is ineffective against them; I find the Standard Issue gear to give more options than the Set gear and currently I'd say only the set bonuses make the sets worthwhile.
The STF sets I feel are more than useful against the Borg, MACO in particular (I have no direct experience of Honour Guard but I see a lot of KDF players using them and they have no issues) and Omega is only let down by it's automatic weapon. Without an I Win button I don't see how they can become much more useful (with the exception of the Omega weapon) against the Borg as they seem to do the job of killing them well enough.

Use that with a two piece MACO set and an Engineer and you just got yourself the best shield tank available.

THIS , This point here is the crux of the arguement . My position is that , it should not be " bonus " damage, as it is all to frequently , the only damage .
As such , it should be the ONLY Damage the weapon produces, as it is the only Damage that is effective.

So with those changes, all at Mk X, coupled with the fact the armor isn't even a great type of armor... yes?
WHy don't you come up with a ground set with the advantages from something like Aegis, the Anti-thoron distortion field in ground combat would be very nice. Of sets craftings space and ground sets would be good, might find a use for rare salvage perhaps. There should be more sets in general anyway, what ever happened to the reman gear, we got the cool skin with the shield, i expected a full damn set with that, maybe make a breen set, with an ability like thot threl had with that cryo AoE aura that slowed enemies, there needs to be more thought. with sets cause frankly the new ones are pretty darn useless.

None of the " specail sheilds " in my experiance proc often enough to be usefull.

That gear at presant is sub-par at the mission at which it is tasked , killing the Borg.
The named gear sets that are available , are also sub-par at this mission, killing the Borg.
This thread was started to gather ideas and debate on how to address this issue.
I put forth this , that any player at cap , should be able of killing any 2 tac drones , solo , without benifit of a team reguardless of where that team comes from .
The concept is great. We really need a craftable ground set, and making it pretty specifically anti-Borg isn't a bad idea either. But, realistically, Cryptic isn't going to want to step in the toes of its STF sets, so we have to approach this knowing that it can't be outright better than at least the Mk XII set items.
At the same time, why no visuals? I see no practical reason to limit that aspect. If it is, again, not to step on the toes of the STF sets, then make the visuals relatively minor; say, a set of chest gear, maybe gloves too, that simply layer over your uniform or basic armor visuals. Nothing that will replace or outright upstage the full outfit visuals.
You might also consider limiting it to Mk X, or else it might overshadow the Mk X versions of the STF sets, but I'm not fond of this idea, personally.

Kinda slapdash, but I think it pretty much screams "USE ME TO KILL BORG until you get the really shiny stuff".
The Standard issue gear is fine, it's not perfect but the modifiers make this gear useful for fighting the Borg but because it's easy to get it shouldn't be as good against Borg NPCs as the STF gear.
I'm more curious why you feel that equipment that's easy to obtain, has bonus damage against the Borg and resistance against there main damage types is ineffective against them; I find the Standard Issue gear to give more options than the Set gear and currently I'd say only the set bonuses make the sets worthwhile.
The STF sets I feel are more than useful against the Borg, MACO in particular (I have no direct experience of Honour Guard but I see a lot of KDF players using them and they have no issues) and Omega is only let down by it's automatic weapon. Without an I Win button I don't see how they can become much more useful (with the exception of the Omega weapon) against the Borg as they seem to do the job of killing them well enough.
It looks more like 'Use me to kill Borg whether you have the really shiny gear or not' as those stats have everything you need to fight the Borg.
At the moment (pre changes on Tribble) the STF sets are useful but not must haves but this set would be a must have as there are no real drawbacks to the benefits, especially a personal resilient shield. Use that with a two piece MACO set and an Engineer and you just got yourself the best shield tank available.

THIS , This point here is the crux of the arguement . My position is that , it should not be " bonus " damage, as it is all to frequently , the only damage .
As such , it should be the ONLY Damage the weapon produces, as it is the only Damage that is effective.
