Why would you need more duty officer space?
More doff mission space would be something and would make a need for more duty officer space but...

    Thanks Brandon. :D

Someone mentioned that the Doff CXP bonus only lasts for 4 hours. Is there correct? I thought it was supposed to last all weekend.

$20 and change per character to cap duty officer roster space seems high, in my opinion. I'd be more tempted if it were per-account, or a quarter the price. I say this not as criticism, just to let you know that you've priced it out of my range.

I'm sort of curious about this too. Also dont you only have a limited amount of assignment points, meaning you can only have so many missions going on at once no matter how much "space" you have?

Well, as someone who will be buying more let me run some numbers past you.

Different specializations: about 45 (don't remember the exact count minus the pooled ones like refugees and prisoners that don't go against your count)
Some of the speicalized missions require 2 of a specific type, and many of them you need multiples to increase your success chances. (Granted they don't always have a single type, but 3 officers of 2 types and other combos for 4 and 5 are very common)
If you want to run multiples of certain types of missions you need way more than 2 of those types (traders and quartermasters are notable here)
There are all those green and better ones you can buy from Frerra.

I have been capped for a few days now, and choosing which white was least necessary was getting really hard. I definitely need at least 100 more, and I will probably be getting all 400 eventually.

Are these character or account unlocks? With the wording of the item description it seems to point towards Character unlock but am looking for clarification.

I understand that it's for getting excess numbers of the "right" specialties but seriously??? It sounds like the following:
    a) kind of P2W to me
    b) kind of superfluous since it's very easy to get to 4 in the long term
    c) it bestows no advantage
    d) it's more than a stipend.

    Fantastic! :)

I am going to buy some DOFFs and additional DOFF space, not because I need them, but because I want to show my support to Cryptic for the hard work that has gone into this part of the game.

I would have been happy with much less than what the DOFF system has now become, but because of Heretic's hard work and constant attention to detail (and listening to feedback) it has become a game in its own right, and helped make STO a better overall experience.

    Thank you! :D

Do not forget C contradicting A, it both bestows no advantage and is pay to win. ;)

In one sense yes, in one sense no. "Contradiction police" always take the worst interpretation which is exactly the opposite of what is done in Philosophy.

    Allow me to clarify:
Does it get you to the end faster? Yes. In that sense, P2W

Does getting to level 4 give you a competitive advantage? No, even if purple doffs gave greater advantages, dilithium and borg chips could get enough purples.

Would you say that the doff system does a lot to builds? No

520 is greater than 400? Yes?

So it can be both P2W and useless at the same time, just not in precisely the same way. Everybody's use of logic was fine, but the textual interpretation was shoddy.

I am very happy to see the added slots. I'm maxed out and need some elbow room. That said, the price is more than I'd like (I was thinking more 400CP/100), so I'll likely not buy the add-on for as many of my toons (right away at least (possibly on a sale, some day)). Cryptic would have made more money from me if they'd priced these less. I'm just saying.

Either way, I'll be buying at least 200 more slots (100 for each of my Main two characters).

    Thanks!

To Staran and The Grand Nagus:
~ Why I need (want) more space ~

I'm a near-full-time-DOffer. I love the System. I just fly around exploring for Assignments and then when I find ones I like, I enjoy spending time trying to figure out just the right DOff for the job.

The problem is in the mission randomness and the versitility to handle whatever comes along. I search around enough I can usually get 3-4 of each Military and Espionage missions, for example. These are my Main characters' "focus". If I take those, I use up my Tactical and Security Officers, but sometimes also use up my Quartermasters. These missions often take 4-6hrs, 20hrs, sometimes upwards of 2 days.

While these longer ones are going, I fill out my assigment list with 30-60min Engineering, Science and Trade missions just to keep things flowing. Of course, the later would like to use Quartermasters and sometimes even Security.

When the Galaxy shifts 4hrs later, I might have free assignment slots thanks to the short missions, but many of my "warriors" are tied up in the longer missions, so when I find new Esp or Mil missions I'm short-changed on Tacs and Secs.

I'm also trying to do the Colonial Chain missions to get those special DOffs and I like to be able to take the occasional non-focal rare/very rare mission, so I do keep a selection of Sci, Meds, Civis, Engs, etc. Plus I have to have the odd Entertainer, Chef, Refugee, and other rarely used DOffs....

Then, too, I want to have space to farm recruitment missions. After all, if I get a Cadre I could open it and get a blue (or even purple!) DOff, so I need room to sort through those.

Finally, having a set or two DOffs for Space/Ground Active Duty depending on my build/mission...

I've already winnowed my crew down to just the "bare essentials", and as I said I'm still at times unable to take mission I want to take because of that darn red square.

Having another 100 slots should do just perfectly. I really don't think I'll need 300, but I won't rule it out. 400 does seem way too many to ever need (unless they up the number of assigments and/or active).

I will also be getting extra DOFF space, but not until the price drops at least 50% or there's a sale. This is too costly for an expansion on an ancillary card game. (Even though it's a really fun and amazing card game!)

Considering how many characters I have, there's no reason for me to get these until there's a sale, and I'll likely only put it on a couple, and grow the rest in due time.

580 points for every 100 extra doff slots.... that's about $20 per chatracter. lets see 8 characters. Tha'ts alot of money for virtual item storage.

I'll pass yet again at this money grab. Its not that I don't like the item its just you're not offering a good value for the price. Over inflated c-store prices are just icing on the cake for the jacked up economy in this particular mmo. Its a shame the Devs get all this great stuff added to the list of feedback and yet here come some more expensive per character unlocks, exactly what we've been saying we don't want.

Left for so long without content all we had to do was make alts. Now you want to charge us an arm and a leg on per character unlocks? I think not. Oh well I'll keep voting with my wallet along with everyone else i've spoken with about this.

    Happy Holidays

Considering the truly horrible grab bags, I'd rather just write a check to Heretic. The rest of Cryptic hasn't impressed me lately, quite the contrary.

I spent the money, but I have to say a few things.

    1) its superlame that they also don't alllow us to get more assignment slots when we rank up in doff xp. They should at least grant us some way to temporarily boost how many assignments we can send people on.

After all, I've got 7 times the numbers of assignments slots of available doffs. 120 people sitting on their collective behinds. They have GOT to be useful somehow. At least half should.

    2) While I paid for it, I feel that the cost of doff extra slots is RIDICUOUSLY HIGH. This is absurd. You want me to spend $6 on 100 virtual slots that you won't even let me assign on more than the 20 slots we start with? What little value I am getting for my hard earned dollars.

The cost is truly too much and you don't deserve it Cryptic. Not for such a meaningless thing. Give us some extra appointment slots when we buy these extra doff slots.

+100 doffs slots gives you +10 assignment slots? Hows that for fair.

    Just my two cents.

    Un-(expletive removed)-believeable.

I am SO disappointed (again) with this obvious MONEY grab..

The extra Doff storage space is a GREAT idea, but the cost is ... TOO HIGH !!!

Just to get an extra 100 slots for my nine (9) active toons would take more than a YEARS worth of stipend.

So, thanks, but no thanks.... I WON'T be getting any...

Just so we're clear, your logic is if you cant afford to buy something 9 times you wont buy it once?

    No.. My reason is thus :- I have nine (9) active toons * 580 = 5,220 Cpoints...

Plus "if" I maxed each toon out, it would cost 20,880 Cpoints.

I can afford it as RL money is not the issue, but that amount of cash on something "virtual" is ridiculous...

    End of...

well... you don't have to max it out... i'd guess 200 is already more than enough for everything.
100 should be enough for most anyway.

it's an OPTION if you are super nerdy into DOff's than you can max it to 400.

not interesting to me AT THE MOMENT
right now i am thinking more of buying some inventory slots, for all my 7 chars... with the stipend and dilithium exchanged to c-points... probably when it's on the next 20% sale....

because the DOff system and all the *collect items instead of currency* approach lately, my inventory gets so full that i need to constantly clear it... and thats just annoying by now.
i spend more time micromanaging than playing *sigh*

more inventory would mean less trips to ESD to clean up... = more time to boldly go, collecting dilithium

Why would you think that something like this is meant for players with a lot of toons. It's for someone who can micromanage their DOffs to a significant level which means only a couple toons at most actually keeping fully assigned out with DOffs. Not everything in the C-Store should need to be designed to appeal to you specifically in price or usability.

My point is, what does the fact that you have 9 characters have to do with anything? Who said you had to buy this or anything else on every character you have? And who said you had to "max out" on space?
