(
Please excuse this, I just can't help myself... it's the College English Major in me)
I just noticed this in the Dec. 2nd Release Notes...
Added more specific text about which queues the player will be banned from when a leaver penalty is enabled.
The last time I got a
LEVER Penalty, was when my girlfriend sat on my lap abruptly at an odd angle.
Whereas I understand that folks get quite upset when a teammate skips out early during a STF or Alert...,
It is nothing in comparison to the grief caused by the aforementioned scenerio.
Might I suggest that a
LeavING Penalty be the more appropriate description for said action.

well... For a while I thought I was gonna NEED a Prescription, after that incident.
So you might be correct....;)
Add an "-y", "-esque," or "-ish" to ANYTHING and it becomes both a pronoun and an adverb for me.
You sir are incorrect. It maybe the English major in my as well, or perhaps it's the military and naval research I do as a hobby. A leaver is in fact a noun representing an object that has left a group. It was used in World War II to describe ships who leave their convoy when heading towards separate ports. The patch notes are referring to people who left a group in the past, not the present tense act of leaving (to which the penalty would be pointless since you haven't left yet).
You may perhaps want to re-read that line, "leaver penalty" not "lever penalty." The patch notes are correct as-is.
In the case you are speaking of.. the word is a corrupted version of Has Left or Is Leaving...
Though it may be accepted as a well used common slang in certain circumstances, it is still not proper english.
Just did The Cure Space and we finished off the carrier, got our loot; for all intents and purposes the mission was over.
Unfortunately the "leave instance" button did not appear, in other words was bugged. so we all had only the option to warp out.
And BAM Leaver penalty, noone of us could do stfs for 1 hour, even though the mission was already completed !!!!
This is annoying
Other games have similar penalties but I think the smart way to do it is to have a 15 or 30 minute or so timer, after which there is no penalty for dropping.
That discourages group hopping without discouraging the acceptance of a group dissolving.
Yikes. I guess we should all switch back to 16th Century 'Modern' English to avoid all these corruptions.
Burn the witch! Burn the witch!
=P
Haven't you been paying attention...?..
"Ding, Dong, the Witch Is Dead..." <chuckle>
In Europe witches were never burned, very few were prosecuted and the vast majority were acquitted.
You shouldn't. I've seen several people get DC'd and come back into the instance. It knows the difference somehow.
That said, there should be a 'group disband' or 'disband and retreat' option for when players ignore the leaver penalty and leave anyway, effectively TRIBBLE the remaining players who can't finish the mission and will get tagged with a penalty for leaving.
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of people getting popped for leaving instead of sticking with the group (god forbid a more experience player help out a less experienced one and walk them through the mission) but this needs to be amended a bit. As it sits now, if someone leaves it penalizes EVERYONE, not just the person that initially left.

...Sorry about that. Must be the surprisingly-literate high-school dropout in me.
Bah! I ain't not gonna care bout no grammer.
I rest my case, Your Honor.
My ISP has been useless the past couple of weeks with the occasional loss of service. Twice yesterday I had to restart my modem and twice I was able to get back in game within the 5 minutes they give you so getting back in game after a CTD should be easy.
But still all this has done is encouraged the AFK farmers, four times yesterday someone just sat at the spawn point, although the TRIBBLE that actually destroyed the nanite transformers before going back to the spawn point (he called in more spheres by doing so) I hope loses his internet connection for a year. A boot from team option would be nice but I could imagine the same kind of person abusing that as well.
