I couldn't help but notice that it didn't recognize itself until the guy told it what was in the mirror, in order to truly pass the mirror test it would have to innately recognize itself, without programming or intervention. It's obvious by that video that the bot has a database of images it is matching with the words, and that by being told what is in the mirror it is adding that image to the database. That is very simple programming.
I watched the video, and I wouldn't call that "self-awareness". The robot is capable of identifying an object that has been designated as "me". If you placed an identical robot in front of it, it would probably identify that as "me" as well, since they look the same.

I think we're safe ... for now.

You say that now, but wait until they make Cylons.

Frankly, I think that getting an AI to successfully associate a visual image with its referent word simply by *telling it* (and not having to *program* it) is pretty effing high-speed.
At least the end of the world will seem much cuter and friendlier.
that gave me a creepy image of a furby-terminator

indeed. its not self aware per se, but its a necessary first step in that direction
I wish this show hadn't been cancelled.
indeed. it was just starting to pick up. and they ended it in a bizarre way too. normally you don't open up a bunch of new plots knowing the series is about to end
I would follow Summer Glau anywhere she wants to go
remember that when she sends you into the pharmacy to get her stuff for her. might regret it

I wish this show hadn't been cancelled. On the other hand, what would Game of Thrones look like without Sarah Connor?

I will worry when a robot looks into a mirror and learns as a child does. Strange person in there looks just like me...oh it is me...
No script just pure evolution of knowledge and thinking.
A Furbinator?
