Hello all,
For those of you who've played the X series games from Egosoft (
http://www.egosoft.com) you know what DiD stands for. For those who haven't played this series, let me introduce you to one of the most complex game modes to play.
DiD stands for Dead is Dead. Meaning that when you create a character and the first time you die/respawn your character is Dead. No respawns, no loading from a save. Dead. You have to start from scratch as if you were reborn, but that character can not be utilized again.
Here's a proposal for those who want to play with a true Trek experience, or become the main Red shirt everyone goes to for replacements.
1. Start off with a brand new character.
2. Must be past the Tutorial - If you die here at the tutorial, it doesn't count.
3. Complete your quests and record them as if you were the acting captain. i.e. Post your stories in the form of Captain logs, but write them based on your current rank in game.
4a. When you die, if you hit respawn your game is over.
4b. When you die, and you're resuscitated by an away team member you can keep going.*
4c. When you die, and you're resuscitated by a team member (live person) you can keep going.*
4d. If your ship explodes, you go down with your ship. Your game is over.
5. After you die, complete your last Captain's log as the Fleet Admiral giving the eulogy to your character's funeral. Post pictures or video of your last mission/quest. Post time and stardate (if possible) of your characters death.
For those who want to make it a complete DiD game, take out rule 2 and play the tutorial as if you were starting at that point.
These rules may change when F2P comes out, depending upon what quests you start off.
Here's an example of a Captain's log.
____________
Vice Admiral Darmoth's log. Stardate 89487.46 (11/18/2011 171051)
The U.S.S. Western has been reassigned to the Deferi Sector to resolve the issues between the Deferi and the Breen. In speaking with Ambassador Surah, several Deferi may have been captured by the Breen during a mining transport mission. I spoke with Ambassador Sugihara to confirm our position to assist the Deferi and have been give the green light to proceed.
Darmoth out.

Even in a watered down version of it I kind of feel like I'm spoiling the game for others by respawning during a Red Alert (certainly spoiling it for myself). But then I think most people probably don't care about DiD and therefore would just think I'm a leaching TRIBBLE, so I respawn.
Not sure I'd be able to do it myself, but I can definitely take a look at the efforts of others!!
