As this title states, I'm looking for a fleet.
About me: I've been playing STO since February 2010 (about a week after the release) and I've become a lifetime subscriber in May 2011. Though I've only been a member on STO for that long, I'm only subscribed for a little over 350 days. I've only have 3 Fed characters (one from each station) but none of them reached Admiral stats yet. I've also have a few on Tribble and Redshirt servers. I'm not much a 'noob' but I'm no expert neither and I've played on and have accounts on other MMOs such as WoW, Guild Wars and a few others.
What I'm looking for:
- Welcome and Friendly is a must!! I normally prefer small size fleets, but if a large one can have that small size fleet friendliness then that would be fine. I just don't want to just join a fleet and feel like I'm just so number in the fleet status. Not to mention having helpful players who would love level with friends.
- Mainly PVE - I could try RP but as long as its not required and it has to be newbie friendly (since I've never RP on a MMO before). I'm not into PVP because it isn't my style and preference.
- Mainly Casual - I have other life commitments (even though I'm a nerd) and cannot commit to play for hours and hours at a time. Also I would be honest and say there will be some days that I basically not in the mood to play. So the 'hardcore and elite' fleets aren't necessary out as along as they are understanding my play time.
- Uniforms - That's a tricky thing to explain. I understand of having the fleet uniforms and wearing them but I don't know about having to wear them all the time. Generally I don't mind wearing them to certain fleet events (i.e. fleet photos, important meetings, things like that), but not too much of wearing it all the time or rather not have to wear them all the time. I do have other uniforms/outfits and I work hard to design them the way that I want to despite what other thinks.
- Mixture of Fun and Organized - I would like to have some mixture with fun and organized structure. However, mostly fun since I have too many structured stuff outside of here and this would be the last that I would need. To put things plainly, I would like to join a fleet where I would be encouraged and comfortable in being myself with the group and enjoy the time together wither its STO related or not.
- Mature - I would prefer to be in a mature fleet (mostly either 18+ or 21+ since I'm just shy under 25) .
Update: This doesn't mean the fleet has to be mature-only but as long as members of that particular fleet can respect each other and their differences that is good enough in my book.
Update #2: Since this requirement happens to be misunderstood, I'll try to make this as simple as possible: I would prefer the fleet to be mature by age, but I want a fleet to have as little unrelated and unnecessary drama as possible. At the same time, I don't want it to be ultra-strict where it ruins the fun and enjoyment. In other words: There's a time to be silly and there's a time to be serious and there needs to be a balance between the two.
- Voice Chat - This is another tricky thing to explain. I understand the usage and the interaction with other fleet members but know that my preference is towards typing messages for fleet chat. I'm not saying I'm against it (or don't want to voice chat) but know that I have a severe communication issue and I will stutter severely though voice chatting. If that's a problem or fleet members aren't understanding (especially when providing the patience needed to speak despite of the 'bumps') and showing childish traits towards my stuttering (I can't stress that enough), then don't bother extending the invite.
- Timezone - I live in Eastern timezone so that would be my strong preference. Also since my gaming hours kind of sporadic so as long as the fleet is active and understanding of my location/timezone then that is fine.
- Contact - You may wish to reply here for an invite (most preferable), or send me an PM. If I happened to be online you may wish to invite me (by 'telling' me or send me a mail for I will not accept just an invite. If you do however, be prepared for me to ask a few things about the fleet before making my decision) though my main character: Cliff@Young-Avatar_Cliff (this is the account I'm most likely on).
I know it seems a bit extensive and but this is as clear as I can make it regards of what I'm looking for. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

First let me say that we are not small by any definition, but, we do in fact have that small fleet friendliness. Alhough we are large enough so that I don't really know everyone in the 12th, we are super friendly, and I have made a lot of great friends here. I felt welcome from day one (back in April when I joined) and have never looked back.
At 12th, we have groups, that we call divisions, in which people tend to focus on a certain aspect of the game. For example, our Engnineering is PVE focused, and our Medical division is RP focused. However, no one is confined to a certain playstyle. Everyone is always welcome to play along with any member, from any division. I am into pvp, which is our Tactical Division, but if I chose to try RPing, I know that I would be welcome. Our "divisions" are just a way for "like-minded" players to find each other easier.
At 12th Fleet, you are never required to play a certain amount of hours or days, etc. We do have a monthly activity check, but that is primarily to keep our roster from being filled with inactive members. Feel free to come and go as you please.
We do have a fleet uniform, but you are not required to wear it all the time. In the 6-7 months I have been a member, I don't recall ever having to wear it, but I suppose if we planned an organised event, it might be required.
That sounds exactly the way we play. We do have organized events, but thats about as far as it goes. For the most part, we are just a group of friends that hang out and play casually.
Most (if not all) of our members are mature adult members. To my knowledge, we don't have a single member thats less than 18. In the group that I usually play with, the ages range from 20s to 40s.
Although we have a TeamSpeak3 Server, it is never required that you use it.
I am also in the Eastern timezone, and I have never logged in even once when I didn't find people to team up with.
I hope this information helps. If you are interested, check us out at on our forums at http://forums.12th-fleet.com
You can register on our site and ask any questions you may have. Feel free to contact me (or other fleet members) in game if you would like to discuss anything.
To address your points:
We are also a proud member of the United Fleet Coalition. The Coalition uses in-game chat channels to organize play (and a web based calendar to organize events). If we are not what you look for in a fleet, take a look at the other fleets in the Coalition. Each fleet is outstanding; joining any of us opens many possibilities and cooperation with the others.
Take a look around and let us know where you go.
Good luck and have fun out there.

In a nutshell, here's how the Blacksheep compares to what you're looking for:
Welcome and Friendly is a must!!
I'll quote our #1 rule in the fleet: "...we are here because we want to have fun. If it's not fun, then why do it? We shall encourage people's enjoyment of the game by being friendly, helpful and respectful... and a little humor never hurts! People who maintain these ideals are always welcome within the ranks of the Blacksheep."
Mainly PVE
We have no requirements, or restrictions, on what type of playing our members do, but it seems none of us are really RP'ers. I have nothing against RP, but it's just not quite for me. We haven't become large enough to have regularly scheduled events, but that will be in the works as we grow. At this time, one of our members will come on and say, "hey, anyone want to do a mission with me?!" We'll usually jump in and level to that person's toon. I myself enjoy PVE the most. Another one of our members loves doing space PVP, which I don't mind, but it's not my favorite. Again, everyone has their favorites, and I don't mind doing a variety of things with them.
Mainly Casual
This fleet is casual, first and foremost. It's your game... you should do what you want to have fun within it. Our only requirement is that you are friendly to others and helpful when able. I myself travel for work, so being a casual fleet was a priority for me.
Uniforms
We have no uniform requirement. We don't even have a fleet uniform set up! We do have a fleet patch made, but you are never required to wear it. Again, it's your game, and you should do what makes it fun for you.
Mixture of Fun and Organized
Being a new fleet we are still quite small, which can make it difficult organizing regular, fun events, but we will be doing so. I'd be happy to give you more details about what we have in the works.
Though the fleet is meant to be casual and relaxed, we also understand that there needs to be some rules in place. We have procedures set up how things work within our group, from promotion, fleet accolades, and, unfortunately, disciplinary action too. These rules and procedure are kept to a minimun, are kept simple, but are also kept to help prevent someone from trying to undermine the goal of our fleet. I've seen a little drama in a past fleet I was a member of, and in Virtual Airlines and Virtual Squadrons. I'd prefer to keep the drama out of it.
Mature
In this area, we may not be what you are looking for. There are people of all age groups on STO, and we welcome all of them. Because of that, we must be aware that the person we're doing missions with might be underage. HOWEVER, we do not do recruiting "blitzes" to pour in the members. We have a slow recruiting process to try to find GOOD people, people that want the same thing in a fleet we do. So, the underage people that are in our fleet right now tend to be more mature than many of the older people I see running around STO.
Voice Chat
We do not use voice chat. I have only used in-game voice on a couple ocassions when I needed to explain something to a member at length that would have been too long to type quickly. Even at those times, the member typed his responses. Even if we were to ennact a voice server, it would never be a requirement.
[*]Timezone
I myself live in the U.S. Eastern time zone, though for half the month I work in the Pacific time zone. I believe all of our members live within the continental U.S., but again, we do not have a requirement you be within that area. We accept members from all over the world.
Contact
As per your preference, I'll leave this messsage here. I hope this info helps, and if you have questions, please feel free to contact me either here or STO mail. I will be travelling again soon, so I may be offline a couple days... please keep that in mind. Thanks!
Take care!

PS - Just thought of something else. Because we are a small new fleet, the members who are in it have a major influence in its direction. For the members who just want to go with the flow, that's fine too, but this is a good opportunity to help shape a fleet and make it fun for people in ways we might not have thought of. We do have a group site where we can exchage ideas: forum section, files, polling area, screenshots, database, etc. I hope you'll give the Blacksheep some consideration. Thanks for reading!
I'm still looking and haven't committed to one at this time (though some are promising). Thanks again for all those who reply.
If you like what you see tell them Mercenary Bulldog sent you.
Good Luck on your Fleet search
Anyone in our fleet is happy to help others when needed, in almost any aspect of the game and in some cases RL. We have a fleet TeamSpeak3 server that we use for voice chat not just in-game but also to hang out as well and get to know each other better (not required, just available). Many of us are located on the East Coast (USA).
Although I say our fleet is dedicated, we also realize that everyone has lives as well, so when you need to take the time, you don't need to be concerned about losing your position within the fleet due to RL too. We do not discriminate against such things because we understand that sometimes real life issues and problems can take time to resolve.
So please, think about joining and moving with us into 2410 armed with the best Intel, the most specific and targeted body of knowledge about STO, and a group of Fleet-mates who will be there with you in the crunch.
Live Long and Prosper!
If you would like additional information on the [VKF] please dont hesitate to contact me or any of our members.
Welcome to the recruiting station Cliff.
I just started the Jevonite Order back up. Most of my fleet mates left for that "other" space game. So I'm starting from scratch.
At one time, we were an all Cardassian fleet (ensures size won't be more than 10-15 active); now I'll be allowing non-Cardassians as sympothisers (most Cardassian players left STO because the race isn't officially playable).
Friendly; well I guess people like me...I have several friends from other fleets on here.
Mainly PvE, but willing to try RP: I mainly go PvE but won't restrict anyone who joins from gathering fellow fleetmates from entering PvP if they choose. RP I have run several RPs on the forums since 2009; so popular that we were up to 12 fleets participating at one time.
Uniforms: As Federation allows their Captains to wear whatever style uniform, I feel that I don't have the right to force you to wear something else (minus the fleet picture).
Still getting things started and I too have RL job requirements at the moment that slow me down on the fleetpage construction...so it aint pretty.
Mature: I'm over 40 so I guess thats pretty old. Retired from the Army in 2009 (mature) and a 3 tour combat vet.
drop by and see if something different than the norm may be more to your liking. Either way enjoy your search and good luck in finding exactly what you want.
