when playing STO after just a few minuets (15-20mins) the game crashes..my screen goes blank (displays a dark cream or blue colour) and a strange noise comes out of the speakers.
I then have to switch of my PC manually and then reboot. I have an alienware aurora 6 gig ram Nvidia GTS 240 1GB an intel i7 2.4ghz..its a pretty well specd PC just don't understand the crashing..when i first got the game last april (that's when i got the PC) i could play for hours and it was fine.
the problem then started happening on other games im playing aswell. I have updated my video card drives but still no success. I'm not a very technical person
any help on solving this problem would help.
Hello my friend,
Try to see if your cooling system is ok , check fan for CPU , GPU , chassis , use an air blower to clean up dust from all the cooling parts .
**** down the PC , open your pc case side , boot up , and look if all fans are working. Looks like heating problems.
If all fans and cooling parts are ok , then , you may have to check memory , cpu , gpu , there are some utilities ( search web ) for memory , cpu , gpu stress tests.
Do you know what version of the dirvers you are using??
Open up the Nvidia Control Panel and select HELP then SYSTEM INFO
I ask because I recently installed 285.58 (released October 24, 2011) and it was giving me issues. I would startd the game and play for a bit then logged off, when i tried to log back on I would get a D3D error message when the game tried to load. I would have to reboot my PC to get the game to work again. The NVIDIA Helper thing would also stop responding every now and then.
So I uninstalled all the NVIDIA stuff thru the control panel and reinstalled drivers 280.26 (released August 9, 2011) which I had been running just fine since it was releases. You can get the older drivers here;
