As far as my first look goes the new skill tree looks good its a lot clearer. You can clearly see what each skill does. They do not yet list all the powers they affect however. You could plan your build better if that was the case.
Still I am a bit disappointed that the new skill tree doesn't include skills that are class only. Right now the space game depends more on what kind of ship you fly than than your class. I suggest placing a couple of class specific skills in each category.
So for the tactical tree you could reintroduce the weapon specialisations. So a science captain specializes in tetrion and polaron. While a engineer specializes in phasers and plasma and a tactical antiproton and disruptors. Choosing a specialization will automaticly lock the others.
For the engineering tree a science would get computercore abilities. Engineering can increase epsflow and powerlevels. Tactical can improve speed and manoeuvrablity.
in the science tree engineers would get impoved damage control. Tactical would get experimental weapons. Science could get a cloack and improved stealth detection.
About 3 to 6 activated abilities should be unlocked thrugh the skilltree.
All ground skills should be a different pool from spaceskills.
