Make it so that the Sao Paolo and Norgh bird of prey refit come with a quad cannon schematic and put quad cannons on the RnD list but the only way to get the schematic is by buying the ship off the C-store
Yes but a console forces you to choose between quad cannon buff and like a buff to your energy specific buffs. I dont like that. And if you think about the energy required to power those quad cannons have to come from somewhere. Would you prefer that energy come from your shields? Yes they need work. There are some small tweaks that you address. Once they address those then they should make the ship come with a schematic that you can then go craft quad cannons of any energy type. That way you dont have to sacrifice a console, get all energy types, cryptic still gets to limit it to one per ship and it gives people a reason to level up in crafting.
The Quad Cannons should really be a console that changes all DHCs to Quad Fire. As it is they force you to either go phasers or disruptors which undermines the whole point the Skill Tree was adjusted to allow folks to access the other energy weapon types.
Frankly, the entire console for the new Defiant should have been something that works like evasive manuvers since the Defiant is supposed to be one of the most manuverable ships around.
That way the Quad Cannons could have been put in simply by changing DHCs to the animation.
However Cryptic are so creatively bankrupt they decided to pull this stunt which forces folks to buy an entire ship... so they can get something that should be standard on the Defiant.
I would love the Quad Cannons however:
1) I get forced to be a phaser / disruptor boat
2) I get forced to buy a 1,600 - 2000 ship for them
3) The item itself is actually worse than existing weapons
Result: Quad Cannons literally gimp the person using them

non-unique up to a maximum of two per vessel
A culmulative -2.5 engine modifier up to a a max of 5 for two quads on the same ship.
and they can add Quads in the other energy types to both crafting and as drops ingame, as well as some with different advantages of Acc/CritH/CritD/CritS on top of their base damage range.

For the schematic idea: not everybody enjoys crafting. So those who do not already have maxed crafting... they would have to pay AND level crafting for that? Especially useleff dillithium crafting?
No... dont thing thats a solution.
I also thing to make it a console would remain the best option.
I personally dont know what the console EXACTLY should do towards mechanics... in somehow more damage for engine-power drain....
But it should change the visuals of ALL equiped duals into quads... and that for all types of energy weapons.
It should be usefull in anyway and look great... for the WHOLE ship... I dont expect more, but not less either..

I think most of us realize here that we want to keep some customizability in this game, with the current implementation of the Quad cannons, its merely for PvE purposes in my oppinion, and for some fancy 'Canon' guys out there.
For most people though, they want more, they want their precious weapons to work with this Quad cannon stuff without being bound and forced with predefined [dmg] modifiers and predefined energy type weapons.
The console most are thinking of could easily change the animations of your current weaponary, let it be Anti Proton, Tetryon, Whatever. With the mod's you have on your current Cannon weaponary.
I couldnt imagine anyone would be against this? Oh well, I guess this was the easiest way to get most of the playerbase's attention.
The console should also add a SMALL damage boost so your not burning a console slot for something as trivial as a COSMETIC change to your ship. If it changed the fire animation/sound of all DHC to Quad and gave a modest damage boost similar to other tactical consoles that effect cannons i'd be down with that. But i have zero interest in paying money for a ship that essentially only provides me with a weapon that is auto gimped out of the gate in both performance AND on top of that hampers my engine power for ZERO gain.

It is a subpar weapon right out of the gate that then further penalizes you with a engine power penalty for no reason, doesn't allow you to be cannon (meaning 3 or even for quads) ......i'd like to insult the person who came up with this item, but that would be rude wouldn't it?

I'd just make it a universal console that changes the animation and gives the following buffs/penalties to all Dual Cannons/DHC:
Double Proc Activation Rate (because you shoot four bolts instead of two)
+20% CritD
+2% CritH
-5 Engine Power per Dual Cannon / DHC mounted (because the +CritH/+CritD represents boosting the weapon damage by diverting engine power)
All the console has to do is change the animation on the ship - An animation change does not earn a penalty
As for the console itself, make it a Tac console that gives the same buff to ALL Energy types.

I'd rather see the Quad cannons become a console which upgrade your current mounted Dual (heavy) cannons based on your specific [mod]ifiers.
So for instance, I run 4x DHC Polaron with [acc]x3
I want the console to upgrade them to the visuals are just like Quads and add some small DPS buff.
But no, Cryptic gives ur crappy Phaser/Disruptor ONLY weapons with predefined Dmg x3 modifiers.
On top of that, to make things worse, they decrease your engine power level...
Just too silly to be silly. All ships get useful stuff, except the escorts... Like usual.
I refrained from buying this new Sao Paulo since I've decided to go back to the MVAM.

[Quad] should be a modifier that compresses the damage of cannons into an even shorter period of time, thus increasing burst, but not total, damage.

The Sao Paulo is a T4 defiant variant, and you can use the defiant look on the Sao Paulo.
