What to do about Traits?

I think this has been overlooked so far. Several traits gave a direct bonus to various skills, most notably, Warp Core Theorist, Techie, Astrophysicist, Efficient and the Joined Symbiote trait.

The old traits gave bonuses to tier 1 skills. This worked well for the way the old BOFF powers worked. Every BOFF power used a tier 1, 2, and 3-5 skill for their performance. So something like Astrophysicist which gave +10 to Starship Operations Training, was effectively +10 to every science BOFF skill. Warp Core Theorist wasn't just a bit of extra power, it also influenced BOFF skills that depended on Warp Core Training.

Now, however, these skills have changed, and so have the traits.

Joined Symbiote gives 3.3 to Hull Repair, Shield Emitters, and Weapon Training.

Astrophysicist gives +10 to Sensors and Particle Generators.

Efficient gives +10 Warp Core efficiency (no real change here).

Techie gives +10 Starship Electro-plasma System

Warp Core Theorist gives +10 Warp Core Potential.

Efficient is fine as it is. Warp Core theorist is almost the same, except now it no longer affects any BOFF skills. Techie is quite different, as is Astrophysicist. Joined Symbiote has also lost some potential.

I'm definitely not liking the much weaker effectiveness of those traits. Is it too much to give them a +10 to every BOFF skill they used to affect?

Astrophysicist for example, to have the same effectiveness it used to have, should have +10 to Shield Emitters, Flow Capacitors, Sensors, Particle Generators, Graviton Generators, Countermeasure Systems, and Subspace Decompilers.

Engineering BOFF powers generally don't use skills anymore, though. Techie and Warp Core theorist would suffer if using the same scheme as Astrophysicist.

Either way, I think a trait respec is definitely in order for anyone with those traits.

I agree, a retrait option for characters that have been affected by these changes (changes to core spects of one's character vision) would be nice.

    Add my agreement to this.
A retrait option is a good idea.
Traits, Equipment and even DOff passives all seem to wiegh into the "completeness" of a build concept.

Indeed it is. As it was a year ago when it was first proposed and every day since then when someone has asked for it.

Cryptic won't do it because they want you to reroll a new character and spend time / money kitting it out instead of letting you retrait.

+1, and no the retrait should not come at a dilithium, C-Points, or EC cost

Agreed. Free retrait for existing characters please.
