Unidentified graphical problem...

I've had a look around the forum and not been able to find any answers for this. To my knowledge, nothing on my laptop has changed, and I've run dxdiag and everything appears to be in working order. I've tried all the video settings in game and also uninstalled, downloaded again and re-installed. I've been playing STO since early last year and it worked fine till early October this year.

This is what the problem looks like:

And as those lights and things flash around the screen, it's pretty impossible to play. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I once had something that looked very similar in a different game, not long before my graphics card needed to be replaced.

Hey, thanks for the replies, here's the dxdiag. I thought it must have something to do with the graphics card but wanted to be sure!

Gpu overheating maybe, might need a bit of muck cleaned out of the vents so air can flow threw.
Make sure you dont put your lap top on counches and materials.
    It clogs the laptops vents

Thanks for the reply, I wouldn't have thought it'd be that as I always keep it on a cooling mat... Any idea how to make sure? I'm at a loss at the moment...
