need and greed?

I've just started hitting STFs heavily. I think I did maybe one before I started on tribble. I've probably done 5 or 6 so far today alone. One thing that throws me off is what happens when loot pops up. It would come up need, greed, or pass. Pass is pretty obvious. In fact, I usually press pass 9 out 10 times.
But what's the difference between need and greed? At least twice I've missed out on a piece of rare borg salvage.

Greed is supposed to be for if you'd like something, but don't really need it. If everyone only hits Greed, it'll generate a random number for every player and the player that gets the highest number wins.

Need is supposed to be for if there's something that you genuinely need. A Need will take priority over all the Greed's, and if more than one person hits Need it gets randomly chosen again.

It doesn't really work generally, as all it needs is one selfish person to hit Need on every single item to TRIBBLE it up, but for Borg Salvage I think it's understandable enough for everyone to hit Need as it's something that's useful to everyone, regardless of how you've equipped your ship. Then it'll just randomly go to one of the team :)

STFs should do Roll / Pass as default.

If folks want to go Need / Greed stuff they can do it in private groups... although if someone REALLY wants the item everyone can just select PASS and the one person who rolls would get it. The Need / Greed selection is largely redundant and far too open to abuse as it is. Remove that ENTIRE loot option and just make it Round Robin, Roll / Pass and Master Looter.

This I totally agree with. If it were just that simple I wouldn't have to read the "So n So's" a "this or that" posts.
