So the skill system is GOING to see a HUGE change, why not go a step further to allow for alot more customization? Currently you are forced to take skills in each tier even if you'd rather not, you simply have to in order to unlock later ranks. Why not unti skills from ranks at least in the manner they are now.
When you create a new character you would have a core set of skills that initially you can only rank up a given skill to lvl 3. Each new rank unlocks the next rank of a skill and unlocks new skills that you can train up. Skills would all cost the same to rank up but each new level of a skill would cost progressivly more points.
You would no longer to forced into taking certain skills and no one captain type (sci/tac/eng) can be favored due to devs arbitrarily putting this skill or that skill at a given more expensive rank. Everything would be equal in that regard but you would have to choose what skills to rank up and just how far up you want to go.
thoughts? I"m just tossing stuff out there because i really don't like where the current system is going especially when they redo ground skills and i'm assuming they will 1) force us to put x number of skill points into ground and 2) take the ground skill points from our current skill pool and further limit space skill selections.

Because that would make sense.
Can't have that.
"Simple" is better. FORCE EVERYONE to spec into things they don't at all need, ensure NO ONE can spec into everything they DO need (even a few points, not even to 9), and you have the new face of STO.
