Crafting suggestion

First of all apologises, i don't read the forums that much so sorry if i'm stealing someone elses ideas (they seem so obvious to me that someone must have posted them before), also i'm self reliant and prefer to help and encourage others in the the fleet to be as well, so this probably won't answer the concerns of those who prefer to use fleet crafters.

So i understand cryptic needs to modify crafting so it doesn't derail the dilitium/cstore model of vendor items, but the current tribble version of 'double grind' has made crafting obsolete in many players opinions. Given that a stated goal of crafting is to free it from MA, why not free it from the Captain as well and give it to your crew?

Turn the Current R&D interface into a crew crafting interface you can use anywhere. Make the current crafting items 'Starfleet standard issue' and remove or greatly reduce the dilituim cost but add a time to complete to all items, say a couple of mins for a schematic to 16 hours for an aegis engine. Also limit the number of projects your crew can work on to 2 or 3 at any one time. This would slow crafting down but still allow players to farm anomalies then get the crew started on crafting the items so they would be ready for them when they logged back on the next day.

So what to do with MA. your captain and how to meaningfully add dilitium into the whole process? Why not turn MA into a proper R&D facility

Add mini-games, missions, dailies and Doff assignments to MA that turn it into a self sufficient zone for the aquisition of rare schematics. The missions would offer you the schematic reward at a cost of dilitium and reseach points while the mini-games, dailies and doff assignments would be used to aquire these.

I have also noticed players requesting the ability to customise items by altering the bonuses (just like a certain other MMO i won't name). Why not add vendors to MA who will 'calibrate' the items to your preference for a dilitium cost?

I personally craft about 75% of the items i use, but the current tribble model would see me giving that up and just grinding for dilitium instead, i'd only bother scanning the anomilies i triped over during missions. I've always liked crafting in all MMO's i've played and have been looking forward to a meaningful expansion of it in STO. I now feel that i'm being channeled away from it and towards a playing style others would prefer, which is something i'd resist, even if it that meant looking at some of the many other games i've bought and not got around to playing instead of STO.
