Devs: Switching between Gold and Silver, allowed or not?

I read a lot of feedback message son F2P, and any number of worries, plans or ideas seem to make the assumption that a person's account can move freely between Gold and Silver.

Other F2P games I have seen do not permit downgrading, whatsoever. Once a "silver" account goes "gold," it does not drop back down upon a player's request or failure to pay, rather it gets locked until the player ponies up the cash for another month.

Is that how it will work here as well? Once you go Gold you never can go back?

And would that mean all CURRENT subscribers will NEVER be able to play their current accounts in Silver mode? Would the same be true of players with previously-lapsed subscriptions who return to the game after F2P goes live?

AFAIR they've clearly stated that it will be possible to go back and forth between gold and silver through a conversion process. This is supposed to work on per-character basis - for example, you may play some of your characters as silver, while the rest remains "locked" as gold until you either convert them, or resubscribe.

Details are yet unknown, but you will not lose anything you've gained (items and stuff) in the conversion. There may be some things you'll have to give up or "freeze", such as additional bank, inventory or boff slots, but in general there should be no need to panic.

I expect one of the stages of Tribble test will be converting everybody to silver (we're playing as gold atm), to check how it works exactly.

Cryptic did something similar in Champions, but I'm not sure of the details as I never played that game. I only know about the Archetypes thing, but issues regarding characters or inventory slots also apply there. I'd be happy if someone else explained how this works.
