It has been said that Cryptic wants feedback and will take this feedback into consideration. They will also make changes to the system if the player react very negative to any change... This is what they have said, but it is not what they do.
The last few weeks there have been many, many more post expressing their unhappiness with the removal of the Free VA Ships and the addition of Dilithium to crafting. There was also concern on the adding of T-3 ships to the C-Store and the changes to the T-5 Excelsior. After a week and a half we finally got word about the reversal of the T-5 Excelsior changes and clarification of the T-3 ships. The T-3 ships will still be free if you have already purchased the T-5 version in the C-Store prior to F2P. I welcome this news because it has cleared up 2 of the major changes from the last few weeks.
But we still have heard nothing about reversing the removal of the Free VA ship, and very little about the addition of Dilithium to crafting with the exception of they are doing this to slow down the game..... I want to ask 1 question, it is a simple question....
What does taking away the free VA ship do to slow down the game?
I know that this question is never going to be answered, and my next proposal will probably be ignored as well but here it goes...
It has been stated that they are adding Dilithium to crafting to slow down the game. My question is why do you have to add dilithium if you can just increase the Anomalies needed to craft an item, add a timer for the crafting of the item, and add a risk to creating the item? If they did all of these things they would slow up the crafting ... The problem is that it would be slowed up without Dilithium.....
I'm not opposed to changes, I'm opposed to changes that don't make sense .... You can slow crafting down without adding Dilithium. I'm still not sure how taking away a free ship slows up the game...... and why is there a limit on how much Dilithium you can refine? There have been no limits in this game since the beginning, so why do we need them now.
OK, It was said to ask questions and they would be answered, and don't criticize make suggestions. Well I've done both, so let's see how it goes........
But one other thing: Cryptic, although you do not see these changes as taking items away from your loyal player base, your loyal player base does and you may want to do something about that. The Future Silver player will be able to access everything that the Future Gold player can access. The F2P matrix looks like it favors the Silver player over the Gold. I will say this to you and I really hope you decide to listen, you should not make your loyal player base upset. You know, the player base that has stood by you over the last 2 years, has put up with the content drought. I really wish you would think about reversing all changes that have been done, but if you want to make those changes you can add those changes to the F2P matrix. Give the Gold player the VA ship, charge the Silver.
I have seen the forums the last few weeks, and while you might think that it is OK, you are P'ing off a lot of loyal customers. Just look at the forums, do not ignore all those posts asking for the reversal of the changes. Because if you do you do not know how these loyal customers will react......
Are you sure you want to take that chance????
So Feedback, Should we bother? .... Bug Reports, Should we bother?
It looks like some feedback is listened to, but other feedback is becoming a test of wills and some is just plain out ignored....
But as far as Bug Reports go, I'm losing faith in writing Bug Reports and I'll tell you why. There are Bugs that I have written reports on for over a year that still have not been acknowledged.... I've asked about them with no response .... So I think I'm done writing them for a while until I start seeing some of the little bugs that have been around for a while start getting fixed. Because if you don't fix the little bugs now, they will become bigger bugs in the future......

Good job the only problem is i doubt you will ever get a reply for a dev etc. I have asked the same questions over and over with no luck... honestly again it seems as if they do not care about "their" loyal playerbase by their non reaction to any comment that is not positive.
Yes, they want our feedback.
No, that does not mean they will change something to suit you.
I'm sure some things they are flexible on and can change, other things, not so much.
And bug reports don't get responses.
Bugs do get squashed. Maybe not in the order that you, or me, or anyone else would necessarily like, but most likely in the order of severity, as the Devs deem it.
Gecko has posted about the crafting issue already he said they are working on an update to crafting that they think we will like but it may be another week until its pushed.
short answer no, its a waste of our time to report these things as cryptic is going to do what ever they want its there game. the fact is that they dont care about the curent players, they care about the free players that will buy the new formatted items like the per characfter unlocks. the players that have been here are a pain in the butt as they cant get as much money out of us because we already have the acount wide unlocks. all you have to do is really take a look at the proposed changes and it makes perfect sence.

I knew about this, I must have removed the line with it. But it did take a week and a half to even acknowledge that they were doing something, and I check the Dev Tracker everyday, and everyday there has been no word on what is going on here and the feeling that most people have toward them. I just want this game to be around a long time, but with trying to make some of these changes they are alienating a lot of the loyal player base, and by the look of these forums the player base is pretty angry.
I also have seen more "I Quit" post in the last few weeks than all of the weeks from the release of season 4 until the announcement of F2P .... It has me worried and the silence is deafening......
All I'm asking is for what they asked for, it was said in a different post not to jump to conclusions, but when all you get is silence you are going to jump to conclusions.... It just seems like in trying to "Fix" the game they are throwing the baby out with the bathwater .... If all they want is to slow up the game, there are a bunch ways to do it that don't involve Dilithium, but with the C-Point/Dilithium exchange it looks like they are adding dilithium to everything because it is now directly tied to real world money.
Make the changes, slow down the game, give more to the future Silver players. I really don't care, but to do all of these things they don't have to add Dilithium to everything..... and maybe that is what is upsetting everyone, I don't know, I just know how I feel and if I was writing the code and saw my customers were as upset as it looks like they are here I would not be silent, I would ask about the problem and discuss different options..... you know, like someone else that use to work here did. But to just spring all of these changes on us and then be silent for over a week, this just gets more people upset......
No, not working on a game, working on an economy system that is making the game into something no one is going to want to play by the time they have finished 'tinkering' with it.
So yes, I think we should bother with the feedback, even if it is negative, because it's all we can do right now to try to save the game we once loved before it's too late.
This is a common occurrence in MMO's. It happened in Star Wars Galaxies and now its happening here. I've taken the time to read alot of these threads and i'm in full agreement with those of you that are not welcoming some of these new changes.
Taking away the 1 free VA ship is a slap in the face to what we were already allowed. Dilithium a currency, if you want to get all Star Trekkie, then the Federation or Klingon Empire provided the ship you commanded with the Dilithium to power it. You're on a mission of Exploration and defending the ideals of your choosen faction.
I think one major problem here is that Cryptic made a fun game and for some unknown reason decided to make it tedious as they felt getting your best ship and high end gear was too easy.
This was one element about this game that was very different from most, If it aint broken, why fix it?
The duty officer addition on the other hand is a very welcome element that will make the game that much more engrossing.
Making one currency for everything may have been a good idea at the time and it may have looked good on paper, but now its on tribble its not so appealing.
People log into a game online to have fun with a game they like and meet others online. It's our entertainment. When Cryptic decides to turn our entertainment into a job then this becomes a problem. People will not be so enthused to log in and be stressed out about trying to acquire large amounts of dilithium. Also this is going to have a negative impact on crafting.
If Cryptic are reading these forums then take time to remember the NGE of Star Wars galaxies back in 2005 and how Sony Entertainment Online. They lost over 60% of their player base in the first month alone. So from 1 million subscripitions to 320 thousand subs. I know my figures are correct.
Even though SOE lost all those subs they could have reversed the situation and role back but they never did and they never truly recovered from the loss of subs.
Cryptic maybe you should be thinking along the lines of how to make STO a continual fun experience for all that play and not have the mentality that things are to easily attained in the game that players need to work for it. Time is precious to everyone and you will lose subs over this.
bugs .. no (unless you post them on the appropriate place on the forum). Feed back on the test server .. YES ! At least we are doing the right thing. After that it is up to Cryptic. After that if tnings implode then the matter is squarely in their hands.

Exactly. The best we can do is tell Cryptic what we like, what we don't like, what what is broken. Cryptic is listening, but they simply may not agree with what you post. In the end, they make the game they want to make, and we play the game we want to play. If we like what they made, we continue to play it, and they continue to make more. If we dislike what they make, we stop playing, and as the money dries up they stop making.
I really do think Cryptic is trying to work with the community of people who play STO. I have been playing since closed beta and this is one place where the devs have been pretty consistent. When there are problems, they often do go the extra mile to make things right. One example that comes to mind is shortly after the game launched and there was fairly heavy downtime. Players were given the badge of Temba and the emote "Shaka, when the walls fell" as a thank you for our patience. We get little gifts for participating in beta tests. Things like that.
With respect to responding to feedback, I would cite the recent suggestion on the STOked podcast that gold level players have a certain amount of their raw dilithium automatically refined so they don't need to log in every day. This was put right into Tribble within about a week.
As a player and a ST fan, I have my own frustrations and aspirations for this game (as does everybody else). What I think I/we need to make peace with is that Cryptic's resources are still finite, even with all of their recent hiring (Hi, Jeremy). That means a lot of what I'd like to see may never see the light of day; and other things I never wanted and maybe don't even like become part of the game. That does not mean that I don't offer suggestions and feedback.
The worst that will happen, they don't use your feedback. The more information about what's going on and player perceptions will be appreciated by them. But something I've noticed is that we are also part of a larger process. They constantly refer to examining data - level progression, number and type of C-Store purchases, etc and other things we might not be aware of. Then they have Perfect World (effectively Executive Producers) and their own design teams. Our input competes in all these aspects.
Doesn't mean that feedback = the exact change you want. Inevitably, those changes will get them more customers or less. It's up to them.
For better or worse we should all make our thoughts known to Cryptic, even if none of us agree.
If the KDF fans had not done so we may not have what we have now and the promise of things to come.
Roach .. my friend .. you folks have had one heck of an uphill battle. If I knew that the Seawolf class were in the works I would ask it to be held for the next 90 days and place some Klingon content AHEAD of that ship. You guys deserve it !
Hey keep posting - they do read, Stormy spends a very large chunk of his day sifting through all of these posts. And he goes back to the Dev team with tons of stuff. I have been following these threads since Tribble opened up to all of us. And just let me say before I go any further - as an old fan and player of this game - I hear your frustration and feel your pain on many of the issues.
But to be fair I have seen many things get fixed/tuned/tweeked as it has went along also. Yep long spells between some dev blogs is hard, but these folks are working under new owners, DS left the Capt. Chair, and on and on that has an impact on well all the parts of the machine work togeather.
I have also ranted about the VA ship token, but Blog 19 had this : We removed some free Emblems from the 600 day reward recently because we knew we were removing Emblems from the game economy. We are replacing this part of the award with a free Vice Admiral Starship Token. Is that not an answer-whathaveyou from the Dev's? I think it is great news, perhaps not "exactly" what some folks wanted but its pretty darn nice none the less!
The feedback (and I feel calling most of it that is generous) thus far in beta has gotten:
1. More transparent (and to the player greatly beneficial) treatment of rarity vs. quality in doffs
2. The doff grind made substantially easier (currently compared to the first build, short assignment CXP rewards are up 10-50x, long ones 1.5-3x, and there are over twice as many available assignments per sector
3. Borg shield neutralizer spam nerfed approaching insignificance.
4. The ridiculous healing/shield puzzle gimmick nixed outright from the STFs.
5. Impending nerf of torpedo spread super-crit potential
6. Dilithium costs substantially reduced, to the point that currently, all equipment except ship weapons is cheaper relative to rate of gain than live (ground equipment substantially so).
7. Noncommittal comment that linked story progression might be looked at after some major systems were in place
8. Dilithium being made tradeable for crafting purposes - a great many people said they would grudgingly accept things if at least the social aspects of crafting were preserved, this was a specific compromise that came up a lot in those threads.
Not to mention minor changes like most aspects of the doff UI.
The feedback is going places. Hell, it's probably working faster than it ever did for anything remotely KDF related.

Remember dev tracker is your friend
Sorry to say, I probably will still hate these changes.
I can't bring myself to give Cryptic *any* benefit of a doubt anymore. The more that gets released to Tribble, the sicker I feel.
if you don't give feedback, then things will go downhill anyway
if you do give feedback, it gives you a chance for that not to happen. it doesn't mean it will be taken, but a chance is better than nothing.
On this I agree... It's better than remaining silent. At least we can say 'told you so' if they ignore us and things don't turn out as they planned.

Yeah. Lots, and lots, and lots of changes.
In other news, a 600-day VA ship token is cold comfort to those of us who just got our 300-day rewards.
