Dilithium Exchange is...

... the first step to a universal bank!

Here's how:
Create C-Point purchase orders offering the minimum dilithium per point (currently 50). Try to buy alot of c-store points.
Immediately cancel your buy order.
All the dilithium that was in escrow is now in a pool that any of your other characters can access.

When this hits holo, I'll do this with all my dilithium (unless we get a real universal bank we can put our EC and dilith and GPL in by then...)

YOu can bet that this will be considered an exploit and will not make it live.

They also need to simply the UI, it's very confusing.

Darn it and here I was hoping this would allow me to craft even gear without the dilithium grind.

Stormshade publicly stated they are intentionally slowing down how fast you get your gear and progress in STO. However, this is not grinding.

Yeah, I thought the same. However, if we could officially store dilithium in banks and fleet banks (at least players with paid sub and lifetime) we could address much of the issues created with crafting and fleet not being able to help out new players.

This is an attempt to either force you to grind for dilithium or pay oodles of cash. Nothing more, nothing less. There is no "lesser of two evils" with the horror Cryptic is trying to force on us.

This is legitimized gold farming with Perfect World the winner. This will make it live.

Admittedly I am a lifetime player of this game and have spent that real life cash to do so. I also admit that since I am not having to worry about paying a monthly access fee to get most of the good stuff from the game I have purchased and most likely will continue to purchase things from the C-Store. This game is like I would be bowling or some other activity in real life. The only major difference is that the items I have getting from the game are not real like a bowling ball is real. Another difference. After a year or two of bowling my bowling ball suddenly started to collect dust in my closet.

To date (and I have been playing this game since open beta) I have not taken more then a couple of weeks max. away from playing this game and I still plan on playing.

What is my point in all this rambling. It is this.

There will always be those that consider this game to be a console game. Which it is not. They will play it like a console game though. They will max out their level in 2 days (slightly exaggerated, but close) they will want to have all the shines. They will just HAVE to have it. They will spend a ton of real life money on they shines that only exist in this game and no where else and they will do an STF a few times and then get bored and leave. In the mean time Perfect World will have gotten a "ton of real life money." Those that know how MMOs work will continue to play at a steady pace but do as I do and get some stuff from the C-Store time to time. Again Perfect World is the winner. This is why they bought Cryptic. This is why this new exchange is here. And will go live.

Me? I will continue to play this game the way I always have. The only threat in on the horizon is the new Mechwarrior Online F2P that was just announced. That if done correctly is the only game I foresee causing me to leave this game. As long as i am able to continue to play the game in its current format where I can play solo most of the time and do STFs with my fleet and friends then I will be fine.

One final note to all. THIS STUFF IN THIS GAME IS NOT REAL!! It is just a computer game. I would suggest not to spend a ton of RL cash for stuff in here. Time to time it is okay to throw some money away. We all do that now and then, but don't literally invest all your cash into this unless you want to buy stock from Perfect World if it is offered on some exchange in the world. That will truly be a wise investment.

    Well said....

Even with the "Discount" tokens and having to grind a bit to get the remaining dilithium, it wasnt had to get "Tribble Born" toons on Red and Blue sides to max lvl, all fairly well kitted out with blue/purple MK XI gear.
When anyone can complete every mission in the game, on elite, with toons all in white gear... its hard to see dilithium or C-points as "needed".

Im a lifer also, spent about as much on this game as i would on a good pair of bowling shoes and a couple of good bowling balls.
My C=points went towards giving a few options to make the game harder by handicapping myself in pvp (Kar-Fi and GalX come to mind :D)

Worth it ? maybe... would i spend more on STO... honestly, not right now...

For me and im sure quite a few others there is an MMO launch on the horizon which will keep us busy over xmas and pehaps beyond.

2 years on and Im still in "wait and see" mode to decide if i got my moneys worth for STO :)

While I think what you say is true, I'm not sure how this relates to having a universal bank and sharing dilithium between toons.

btw, Perfect World is traded on NYSE under symbol PWRD should anyone be interested in buying (or shorting) their stock.

    C-Points are account wide.

    Dilithium is exchangeable for C-Points

Therefore dilithium is account wide. You just have to walk it through c-points and back.

They can either make dilithium and c-points not exchangeable, try to make people buy "character specific c-points" which would be different than the current cpoints, making it so that REAL cpoints and dilithium are NOT exchangeable, or realize that you can't have it both ways with character specific currency and account specific currency and a free market between them.

You might want to re-read Rehpic's post:

We are currently evaluating a change where orders could only be cancelled by the character that created them, and the escrowed Dilithium from a cancelled order would be deposited directly back into that character's personal balance rather than the account wide exchange balance.

yah the point isnt to prevent moving Dilithium from 1 toon to another... the point is to force the use of the exchange in doing so..

If i can drop dilithium on the exchange and hit cancel and effectivly transfer, im not using the exchange mechanism as intended

If i list my dilithium on one character...and rebuy it on another with c-points... im using the exchange and facing a chance of a few things :-

a> Someone buys up my dilithium while im reloading the character (i might have to pay more c-points to buy the same amount back)

b> someone lists their Dilithium at a cheaper price... i might profit and end up with more that i started with.

c>i might simply buy my dilithium back at my listed price... makign it a wash

ALL of these use the exchange in the way its intended... the cancel "feature" doesnt.

The Risk/Reward factor serves to discourage transferring dilithium on one toon to another. Buying C-points becomes the "Safe" option.
bottom line is they WANT new C-points flowing into the economy...cos that = $$$ for them.

Making it "risky" to shuffle dilithium via the use of the exchange, without buying new c-points, "encourages" just that.

I have read through the blog about the wonderful new dilithium exchange introduced this week by the game developers on the Tribble server. After seeing the tool in game, I am left with one fundamental question, why would I want to use it?

At the top of the tool under the tab "Sell Cryptic Points" I see a panel titled "Top Offers to Buy Cryptic Points". I do not understand why I as a paying player would take real world money and purchase token money for what is essentially an amusement park?

I do understand at many theme parks, it is common practice for the park organizers to create a token currency for in the park that customers will use to purchase services and products in the park. This makes it easy for the park to manage money in a centralized way.

I pay for a packet of tickets and then I can go ride a ride or play some skee ball.

Now, if I paid for a life time subscription, then what value or incentive will there be for me a player to use the dilithium exchange?

I do not understand why I would take $20.00 and purchase C- Points. Then take those points and sell them for dilithium.

Why can I not just simply walk up to another player and hand then the c-points or dilithium directly?

What is the need for the exchange?

It seems to me to be an over complicated way to control trade in the game. Also, it seems weird that the trades are made blindly. Who wants to trade real money blindly to into a system where you have no idea where the money goes and for what purpose? Personally I would prefer a tool that had more useful accounting data. I have no idea that the transactions are secure.

How do I know if the bids on the list are real players and not just computer generated numbers to make it appear that sales are being issued on the exchange?

How do I know I am not just paying 20 dollars to Cryptic and then turning around and taking dilithium I make and C-points I purchased and handing right back to Cryptic?

    The whole tool seems shady.

In the real world, monetary transaction are not traded blindly for a reason. The buyer and seller must have agreement and assurance. In this market, we have no idea if the market itself is legitimate.

    Thank you.

It's no different than an RL commodities or stock market. You may not need the ability, especially if like myself you are willing to use real world money to simply buy the items you want. The idea though is for those who don't have RL money to spare but are willing to gather dili for you to buy what you want.
