So, I thought I'd vent some frustration I'm having with this "beta test."
Up until about 2 patches ago I was holding my own in ship combat. I was watching my shields, transferring power to a facing when I needed to, and using my boff skills as needed. Then we get patched...and all of a sudden, BOOM! I'd come into a combat situation, immediately get hit with about 8 torpedoes in a single salvo, along with beam weapons, that obliterate a shield facing, and take 40 to 50% of my hull away, in a single strike. Memories of the initial beta test for this game came flooding back, where combat was nearly impossible sometimes because of these alpha strikes. So I keep grinding...I'm noticing that torpedoes are taking HUGE chunks of shielding, and beam weapons are shredding through anything I have.
So, I check my shields, update them to the highest Mk rating I can find, add some armor, etc. and go again. Same thing. So I think "wow, the "advanced" difficulty really got boosted", so I take it back down to normal. Still, same thing. Now that I'm in my Captain level cruiser, I'm finding that even with my shields at full power allocation and a shield buff, I can't keep them up. I can understand having to transfer power to a shield facing often when taking a lot of damage to the one side, but I have to continuously spam the button, and if I leave it even for 2 seconds, the facing is gone and I'm 20% down in hull. I think that's a bit excessive. So my question is, although I took a few months off before the f2p test came around, were there MAJOR changes in combat strategies that I missed out on? I reached 51 fairly easy on the live server, and didn't run into any major issues like this....so I'm hesitant to say I'm a complete moron and don't know how to play the game...but honestly it feels like it at this point. I shouldn't be struggling with Bird of Preys that are 3 to 4 levels below me.
Also, did they re-code this game from the ground up, or what? I've seen a ton of things, like weapons not showing up even though they're being fired at me, wrong shield facings showing up being hit, glitches here and there....rubber banding...server boots, not responding, etc. These are all issues we had in the actual beta testing...two years ago. I didn't think a conversion to a f2p system meant starting over on the whole game!
Regarding the bugs you have noticed, Tribble was built on an old build. From round about the release of season 4 I believe. A lot of the problems solved on holodeck since then are still around on tribble because of this.
Maybe some of these have been fixed on holodeck, but just last night while doing the "Klingon Scout Force" fleet action, my assault cruiser got hit by one of the npc turrets by a single torp for 117,000 damage! Since i had full shields and hull, well it vaporized my 45k of hull through my shields...lol. Yep, that is indeed how cryptic fixes things. I won't even go into some of the numbers i've been hit with on tribble while doing the reworked space STFs...

It's torpedo spread and it's really badly broken. Usually it's fine but when it crits it crits incredibly hard and has even one shotted my fully (defensively) buffed Star Cruiser before. It's beyond annoying but Gozer mentioned last week it was being looked into. Looking in the combat log is usually interesting, the highest I've seen is 124k on Holodeck during a Borg DSE. KSF I think the highest I've seen is 94k.

This is fairly prevalent on Holodeck too, KSF and the Borg DSEs are the best places to go if you really want to be one shot although I've had it happen once or twice during STFs too.
If you were fighting Borg, they love to spam that shield draining attack they have, which seems to be on a faster recharge counter then any Hazard Emitters I have buffed up. You'll get hit, counter it, then get hit again shortly thereafter, but Hazard Emitters will still be up, take it away, then hit again.
Somewhere in that time, the torp spread the Borg had shot off, reaches you, and invariably crits.
Same boat here. Romulan warbird one shotted me in my assault cruiser. T:HY III plasma torp . Did about 60k damage. I ignored it because I had full shield facing and 100% hull, and had just popped B:O II... boy that was a mistake.

If it was a heavy orbital turret/platform I don't doubt it. They are not toys like the normal turrets. And frankly I'm fine with that.

That's why I love them. 3 players, advanced setting and seeing 9 High Yield torpedos coming your way while you are tractor beamed and your weapons don't work because of the uncleansable Viral Matrix... makes a grown man shed a tear.

...lol. I usually see the Christmas tree light glory of red balls coming at me, and even if I hit Brace for Impact, Emergency Power to Shields, and hit the key for the shield facing, I usually close my eyes and wince a bit.
Well, at least I know I'm not crazy. I hope that with all the craziness of them reworking everything for a new profit table that they don't forget to fix some of the REAL bugs with the game, and some of the things that don't work right. At this point I'm sure not going to waste the dilithium crafting even a purple shield if it doesn't stand up to a standard fight.

Got you beat. On tribble, in an STF, I got hit for 127.8k.
Do I hear 128k?

I'm not fine with the torpedo spread spam though.
