Exploration/DOFF Idea

One of the reasons why people are focusing on leveling diplomacy (which I personally think should be like the others) is that there are patrols and exploring missions that add 10 points each to diplomacy while the only way to earn points in the other commendations is through the DOFF system. Well, a way to help both exploring and the DOFF system is if there are two or more exploring missions for each commendation. (HERETIC: Yes, I know you already started making changes, but here is something to consider.)

Here are ideas of what exploration missions can give (Current missions are in green and new ideas are in red):

Diplomatic (with a point scale system that is the same as the others. ie. 2500 points to tier 1):

1. aid the planet/protectorate = 20 points (because it costs us something to complete)
2. freighter investigation = 10 points
3. Diplomacy missions from ambassador (what's his name) = 10 for investigations and 20 or 30 for first contact (depending on how well you do)
4. Diplomatic points may be added to missions where the player is assisting someone = ?

Science:

1. scan data in space = 5 points per scan
2. scan data on ground (why not) = 5 points per scan ( + military points if fighting is involved)
3. Scanning all data during a mission = 5 (not counting science missions)

Engineering:

1. fix objects in space (i.e. malfunctioning ships or satellites) = 20 for a ship/5 per satellite
2. fix objects on ground = 5 per "fix". An engineering mini game would be nice.
3. Fix problems with ship (ship interior mission)

Military:

1. kill squadrons = 5 points per squadron
2. kill troops = 5 points per group
3. Intruder Alert! (ship interior mission. Devidians or something like them)

Exploration:

1. scanning anything that isn't data in space = 5 points per scan (i.e. asteroids, debris, etc. We have them in the patrols so why not in exploration? Having a small chance of find dilithium deposits would be nice, too.)
2. scanning anything that isn't data on the ground = 5 points per scan ( + military points if fighting is involved. A small chance to find dilithium and a plant that will start a DOFF medical mission)
3. Catalog all planetary animals/plants (if and when they are put in. Possible accolades) = 10
4. One could argue that doing the Exploration Missions would add points to this commendation.

Espionage:

1. investigating bases = 20 (+ military points if fighting is involved)
2. observe contact and copy transmissions = 20 (cloak or hide energy sig required!)

Medical:

1. Help cure a plague on planet = 20
2. Cure ship contamination (yours or theirs) = 20
2. Determine Remains = 10 (5 if found in other missions)

Colonial:

1. Scan planet: Colonizable = 20 (there shouldn't be many) See 3.
2. Scan Planet: Not Colonizable = 5
3. Establish Colony: If the player has 5 colonist in his DOFF roster when finding a colonizable planet, he can immediately establish a colony = 200 (jackpot)

Trade:

1. Barter with Planet (like Aid the planet but they give you something in exchange) = 5, 10, or 20 (depending on negotiations. 5 being a no deal)
2. Barter with ship or station = 5, 10, or 20

Development:

1. Holodeck malfunction! (ship interior) = 20
2. ....need help here....

Recruitment (this one can get complicated):

1. Any number of these missions that assist or trade can have a small chance that a civilian would request to come aboard = 10
2. A very rare chance that an enemy ground unit will request asylum during a combat mission = 30
3. A small chance an enemy be knocked unconsciousness instead of dying and can be taken prisoner = 20
4. A chance that a mission involving a factioned species (Andorian if your a Fed for example) could have a DOFF request to come aboard = 20

I'm fitting in current missions as I remember them so if I missed one let me know. Also, any mission ideas would be appreciated. Just by filling in the requirements of having something for every commendation, you can see how it will diversify exploration. These missions I'm adding are pretty simple, too. If that's not enough, they could allow us (the players) to make exploration missions with the foundry (as long as they give the other players a choice of what they're getting into).

    I'm all for interaction between the DOff system and other areas of the game.
