"Server Not Responding" for a week or two

Hi,

For the first time ever I've had constant problems on Holodeck and Tribble for the last week or two. It's fine in some zones (no issues at all) while others are constantly unplayable and frequently disconnect me.

It's possible it's provider specific bottlenecking, but doesn't *seem* like it is given I can reproduce it by going out of and back into one of the instances that's having issues (and completely goes away in other instances - none of which are very busy).

I've never had an issue with STO or CO before and I'm not seeing any issues with other games and there is no other network activity on my connection or rate limiting on my account.

My provider is TalkTalk (talktalk.net) [I work for them]. I have a stable 16.5 Mbps/ Down/1 Mbps Up ADSL connection (typical max actual throughput about 1 MB/sec down sustained). Generally no issues though P2P network traffic is rate limited during peak hours, as with most providers.

Traceroute output (transadlantic):

>tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com
Tracing route to patchserver.crypticstudios.com [208.95.185.41]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Trace complete.

Nettest doesn't seem to work (output hangs on "Port: 80:").

PS: I wrote the (freely available) software we use for connection diagnostics at talktalk-labs.com and would be happy to configure the it to it run hourly (or even up to every 15 minutes) run short Ping and Jitter tests from my PC to patchserver.crypticstudios.com for a day or two and share the results (with benchmarks against other locations).

Happy to provide any other info / run any additional tests that might help.

Have you tried changing to the EU proxy ? (do this by loading the launcher and clicking "options" then change the "proxy" drop down box to EU then hit ok)

I have had the same problems as you and changing to the EU proxy worked for me....

As for where the problem is, hard to say, the last time i did a trace route to cryptics servers they were getting a near constant 20% packet loss which is very bad.

I would recommend downloading winMTR and doing a host trace for "patchserver.crypticstudios.com" (without the exclamation marks) as its like traceroute but gives a constant realtime look at whats happening along the server hop path. If theres any regular packet loss or high pings you can bet that will be the source of your problem.... You will probably find the problem to be either cryptic or somewhere on the american side of the internet... I have noticed for the past few weeks that the american side of the internet is very unreliable with high pings and mass packet loss... i guess the american companys arnt maintaining their servers or something.
