I have been utilizing the Doff system with all three of my characters on Tribble. I have 2 Lt. Generals KDF side and one Fed I am currently leveling up.
With the last Tribble update I noticed there was a revamp of the Doff system pop up window which included the addition of a "settings" tab. It has one slot/post for a first officer and six spots for various department heads, which are all "blacked out" or unusable, presumably this is another work in progress.
A few days go, I noticed that on my Fed Lt.Commander character I have all of these posts filled. I am unsure as to how or why this has occurred, and I am particularly curious as to why neither of my Klingon characters can access this feature. It is interesting to also note that these are all Bridge officers, not Duty officers.
Obvioulsy, there a multitude of peripheral questions that will be asked, such as "What kind of bonuses or benefits will slotting these posts provide for the player?"
If anyone can shed some light on this recent developement and it's significance, I would appreciate it as I am sure others will as well.

Apparently the devs are curious as to why the Klingons can't access the feature too, but that should be fixed before long. The posts are mainly placeholders for now, and more functionality is planned for... someday.

Currently, this is only cosmetic - it determines what bridge officer gives recommendations for duty officer appointments for various assignments.
It will be interesting to see what eventually transpires beyond the cosmetic "functionality."
The DO system and the department heads are the thing that imo STO needed much
