What's with the cool down timers?

I noticed in space that two things have popped up that I'm not a fan of.
1) when time is over 1 minute, the timer rounds to the nearest whole minute instead of giving a granulated time. For example, if the cool down was presently at 1m45, the new display would simply read 2m.
2) the timer displays "s" after seconds. Kind of annoying and clutters the interface. I'm content with the timer saying "15" instead of "15s". I'm pretty sure most people can figure out by how fast it's counting down that it's seconds.
