Have to say this, but with my ol' laptop with G210M nvidia ticking at slowpoke rate, I can crank Tribble to much higher detail than I can do at Holodeck side without any adverse effect on frame rates etc. Pretty. I like - kudos for performance streamlining.:D
Supposedly, Tribble has always had some lower requirements graphics-wise. I've heard some mumbo-jumbo tossed around about minimizing the graphics load (at any setting) makes other problems more apparent, such as overloaded instances, UI delay, etc.
That said, I've never seen any evidence that such a thing exists on Tribble. It appears to be the exact same graphical quality as Holodeck. I really hope what you said is true, and that the devs are finally optimizing a lot of their assets. Particle effects are the biggest killer in a game.

In my case (as I cannot speak for anyone else), with the settings I have now at Tribble side, Holodeck chokes and the fps drops dead (at worst down to 1-2 fps or momentary complete halt, eg. in Khitomer with probes and spheres and loads of particles or somesuch in the air).
With sound I don't have problems at Tribble per say (they sound a bit "dulled" or "muffled", but not annoyinly so), whereas e.g. yesterday at Holodeck... crackling, cut-outs, and echos.
Well after finally finding the high def objects checkbox on Tribble, I have to say that it is prettier. Maybe it's just the textures, or the shaders, but looks better, and runs a lot smoother then Holo. As comparison, Qu'onos on Tribble never chokes or goes under 29 fps, and I'm playing in maximized window 1920x1080. On Holo, I had like 15-24 at best, and when transporting from the shipyard to the city, it had some horrible horrible popups. The city was building up right before my eyes, and I so NPCs and PCs walking in the air, with building parts appearing around them. Same goes for space encounters. Even with a fully busy Cure space, with 10-15 marauding shuttles, 3 detachments of S'kul fighters, 5 players, and a deadly cloud of torpedoes and beams it never skips. So yes Cryptic, if nothing else, bring this engine to Holodeck before F2P.
Btw, the install faq says that STO supports DX10.. where do I switch that on? I want more speed in windowed mode

No clue how to switch that, but I always run windowed to avoid screen flicker when alt-tabing elsewhere (dual screen with two monitors). But indeed, what changes they did performance side should be brought to Holo ASAP!
On tribble my captain is wearing a enterprise era mirror universe top. In the character creation screen the skin looks nice but during normal play much of the details are lost. Last night I was playing the cure on holodeck and I noticed much more details on my captain wearing the exact same thing. So clearly some of the graphical changes on tribble cause a huge loss of details. I don't know what I can do to get it back...

On Holodeck I have no trouble with anything, on Tribble the sound is very crackly when warping in and out. Anyone else has this problem?
