Except nobody wanted them to add it to crafting or add a limit that can only be gotten around if the pay REAL money to do so.
While I feel the crafting dilithium cost is too high, something needed to be done because players being able to craft very good items for other players for nearly nothing was not good. Crafting has been a joke because of how easy it is. The only reason not to craft is because of how simplistic the system is, and while this may not be changing at least it should cost something more meaningful than data samples that are gotten without even trying.

Yeah because that's the reason why their doing it
If this were the case why wouldn't they limit it to just purple items instead of every even mk item it the game. Now we can't get ANY even items without dilithium NOT EVER WHITE COMMON GEAR. Besides its not even the good stuff you have to do the STFs for that.

Something could've been increasing the material costs for very rare gear. No, the only reson for the change is to nudge people towards dilithium <-> cryptic points trade.

They could have gated it with cooldowns, increased material costs, energy credits (remove the ability to craft schematics ), decreased the spawn rate of anomalies. Dilithium is not the right answer. Hell they could force us to buy the schematic, craft the white version for 30 anomalies, upgrade it to green for another 10, then 20 more for blue, and 30 more for purple. End result 90 samples plus particle traces for a purple while still making the system have more depth. To make an even mark item add 10 more to each step.
Keep your damn dirty dilithium out of memory alpha!

I'll admit that the reason I like it is because it increases the value of dilithium, as long as they don't go too far that most players just don't craft which is probably where they're at right now.
It's as hard for me to objectively evaluate current changes as for anybody. Clearly a big complaint people have with adding dilithium to crafting is how it will affect them personally and not how it will affect the game as a whole. Although i have a both a maxed Fed and KDF crafter on holodeck, i don't really consider myself a crafter. And, I'm much more ready to see anything that will make my current nearly worthless emblems and merits worth something potentially valuable. Dilithium has this potential, but only if done right.
It needs to required in many places, but not so much so that players avoid the things that it is used for.
Did you even play Champions because this is just false. I had my favorite Champions character reduces to nothing. His skills were gone or changed to be totally different. It was many months before I even bothered to reskill him up as best as possible and it's still no where near the character it was. Much more significant change than anything close to what's been proposed so far for STO. But like is happening in STO, while this happened with F2P it wasn't because of F2P.
Power changes were and are an ongoing thing in CO before and after f2p, and if you did have a character with skills in one of the frameworks that has occasionally gotten so heavily modified that it requires a skill wipe and rebuild, you have always gotten and will always get that for free. And I find myself wondering just which power set you were talking about. It sounds to me more like you're talking about a silver downgrade, which is exactly the opposite of what people are talking about.
There was nothing a subscriber could acquire in pre-f2p CO wthout additional expenditre that a subscriber couldn't access without additional expenditure in post-f2p CO. Actions demonstrate that this will not be the case in STO, despite words otherwise.

The problem is I don't see a point in time where crafting will be attractive enough with any kind of dilithium charge to be used. As you level up you will be spending the bulk of your dilithium on ships (as a silver) or maybe 1 item from a vendor per tier (until you unlock the STFs and breen dailies your only options for dilithium are the daily satellite repair and your explore daily plus any events you manage to catch). There is no dilithium to spend on crafting and you can get good enough gear from the featured episodes to grind Borg salvage for stf gear. As it is you use dilithium to respec, buy ships up to RA, trade them for c points to get VA ships, buy bridge officers and get gear for you, your ship and your away team.

I don't necessarily disagree personally, except that the same thing could be said for emblem/dilithium gear now and yet people do buy it. To me it's always seemed too expensive relative to crafting or getting items through other methods including the exchange and missions. Thus, I have a lot of emblems now and will have a lot of dilithium in the future, except I will be able to trade it to others.
While I realize some have likewise questioned whether others will buy dilithium, the fact remains that many will value it to purchase gear just as they do now for emblems. And, removing very cheap crafting doesn't change this. Especially, if all that a dilithium charge does is make crafted gear only somewhat less expensive than dilithium gear instead of outrageously less expense.
You mean the "other topics" that point out the inaccuracies in your statements? Hardly a flame fest.
OK .... Fine ... What about my replies that point out your inaccuracies? We can both keep going back & forth but there is no point to it because we are not going to change each others minds and we both feel very strong in our positions so it will eventually turn into a flame fest.
Since I don't want this post to be closed I am stepping away from posting to do my part of keeping the post open. I know you are going to write some reply to this, but aside from clarifying why I am not posting I will not reply to someone that is just trying to keep an argument going.
My feeling is that Paying Customers should not have anything taken away from them and your isn't...
That's OK by me.... Have fun in game!!!
I believe in the 50 million dollars PW paid to acquire STO. If any of you have 50 mil to blow and let someone sit on their butt and do nothing with a game like this let me know because if so I can be your new executive producer.

And yet you did post. And were kind enough to blame someone else as to why you must post. Please. If that's the best you can do, perhaps you should step back and re-think how to present your position if you're going to try to debate it. Statements like that only torpedo your position.

Which inaccuracies did you point out? You stated your view points on a few things. Unless this is just a "I know you are but what am I?" type of argument? The inaccuracies I pointed out was with your inaccurate translation of a statement taken out of context from the Free To Play Q&A section.
We can both keep going back & forth but there is no point to it because we are not going to change each others minds and we both feel very strong in our positions so it will eventually turn into a flame fest.
I didn't think it was becoming a flame fest. And there's nothing wrong with feeling strong about something you have an opinion on. However, I was taking aim at the use of a statement, taken out of context, made by a former employee, and an important descriptor being ignored, as the basis of why there is an issue of 'trust' why its cause for "Doom and Gloom".
I also took aim at the original post because you made the claim that "almost everyone" is against changes, implying your statements are supported by a super majority of the player base. Oddly, I don't recall seeing an in-game poll asking.
My feeling is that Paying Customers should not have anything taken away from them and your isn't...

Your fine to have that opinion. However, I would expect to get some opinions of the other side, as change in online games is a way of life. Play models get changed, new features get added, existing features get changed, things get nerfed, things get boosted, etc, etc, etc.... It's a fact of online gaming.
About the only thing I can tell that has you upset is that the Tier 5 ships are being classified as 'premium' ships and will require a C-Store purchase to acquire after Free To Play goes live. That is, if the player hasn't already purchased them for their account.
As much as you may dislike a Free To Play model, and the transformation to a micro-pay system, you have to realize it's coming. It's the basis for all of Perfect World's games so far, and they're the ones calling the shots. Free To Play doesn't put a premium on monthly subscribers, or a one-time single paying 'lifetime' subscriber. They're more geared at the individual sale of item(s) from whatever 'store' they put up. It's a much different model than what a lot would consider 'traditional' online games, where subscriber numbers were king.
