Doff System, Commendations and Patrols

I was playing catch up on my patrols for the sole reason of getting them off my mission list... well and for the occasional diplomatic XP.
And a thought occured to me.
If the non combat diplomatic patrols help reach the next Tier in Diplomacy, what about the other parol systems?
I am sure most of them could be adapted to fit into one or the other commendation category if they don't already.
For example, securing trade routes or eliminating a pirate thread or delivering medicals or colonists...

They could be the Doff missions the Captain takes the time to do himself.

It would give meaning back to the now defunct patrols.

Seriously, the rewards at suck, we outlevel them so fast with all the other stuff it's not funny and they just clutter up our mission list.

Here is your chance to make them an integral part of the game experience again.

This would be a great improvement yes, would also help with exploration missions as well.

Just plain killing would be Military, killing and destroying satellites etc Espionage.

As you said they are rather pointless otherwise.

Yes, would work for Explorations as well, but I would restrict it to patrols, to give commendation categories a boost without breaking the system.

After all, at a certain rank (hello, Vice Admiral), those patrols are clearely beneath us after all.
