Keep in mind too, there are drawbacks built in to leveling this way. For example there are damage and kill accolades that improve your ship and ground performance that you won't get if you just Doff your way to the top. Also the missing story progression is a big drawback since you won't be eligible for new featured episodes until you run the missions under the current Tribble setup.

Actually I heard new FEs will be open to every rank and after a set amount of time will then be folded in the storyline.
Probably someone else said this...but I will say it again.
If you play the storyline AND Doff missions, we will really hit a wall with crafting. As it stands now on Holodeck, after leveling 5 toons up to VA, RARELY did the level of weapons/kits/equipment coincide with my toons level. When I was a captain I was still struggling to keep up with commander level gear.
I guess maybe this is because I play the storyline and only do explore missions when there is nothing left to do. I HATE GRINDING!
Now with the Doff system. even giving half the skillpoints missions give, this will really cause the player to outpace what they can craft.
I dearly hope that Cryptic leaves the leveling xp alone. As someone who's been playing since the closed beta, I'm thrilled to see a way that makes leveling far less of a bore. If i should choose to send my Doffs off on 2 or 3 day missions, they should adequately reward me for such and XP is an excellent way of doing it. It takes the GRIND out of leveling. Almost makes rolling a new character enjoyable.
For a while I've been upset about leveling too fast. I've since realized that I wasn't upset about outleveling the content - content is content and can't be outleveled now that your enemies match your level - but rather that I was outleveling the loot. Loot doesn't match your level and so I'm fighting against Captain level enemies - but getting Lt Cmd level loot - and given that I generally equip my ship using drops this means that I've been fighting Captain level enemies with Lt Cmd (or now finally Cmd) level loot. This makes missions a good bit harder than Cryptic has intended.

Unfortunately I'll probably get a nerf again and fixed on live because the hardcore types hit the Doff system hard then complain about leveling fast without realizing its ment to be played casual and most everyone who doesnt doff for 8+ hours a day wont level fast with it.
I am uncertain if this has been asked but are there any plans to convert experience points into skill points or something else entirely when you reach the level cap?
Having hit the level cap just the other day, I am hoping the 8-12-20 h and longer missions will not see too dramatic a shift downward in xp per mission.
Frankly, I have no idea why people are even comparing leveling via duty officers on tribble to what it will be like on holodeck in terms of speed (more in terms of overall balance). To the best of my knowledge, the duty officer skill points are accelerated just like the mission skillpoints. Maybe this is what leveling will be like on holodeck during a Q weekend, but not normally.

People lack foresight, its easier to complain then use their brain to realize it wont be like this on live and more over most people dont have over 8 hours a day to hammer the Doff system, so even if the more hardcore inclined players do which in reality can be done with anything else in the game if you have tons of free time, it ends up not being a big deal.
I really hope the devs dont give in the QQing and take into consideration no one will be speeding through anything doffs or not when the xp is returned to normal unless they have insane amounts of free time every day to grind.
I like that the Doff system adds a new dimension to the gameplay but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the, what, 15 or so XP lines of progression. Everything from espionage to exploration, engineering, etc. Is that really necessary? They're cutting back on and simplifying the skills tree which I always thought was a bit much so I'm thinking this might eventually go the same direction. Granted, it's not a big deal but its another dozen or so things to keep track of. Just my opinion.....
For 3 days now, I've been addicted to the Doff minigame(?), I've made sure my Lt8 always had all 20 slots full. If there was a gap of more than 30 minutes I'd go do a mission, or log out for a bit. In those 3 days i went from Lt8 to Lt9. ! level in three days of CONSTANT attention and FULL day play. This is what's considered leveling too fast?
So, assuming the leveling is constant (and I'm actually expecting it to slow as I get higher in level), If I played a minimum of 8-12 hours a day, for 125+ days, i could reach VA through Doff only. Well, I hope this "accelerated" tribble XP makes it to holodeck then.
Its a Star Trek game. You are the captain of a ship, and 9/10 of that is paperwork.
I see the point you're making, but I would suggest that if Star Trek as we know it were 90% paperwork, then I doubt the franchise would've made it past September of 1966.
I do agree with you that the doff system is a worthy addition to the game; my original concern was merely aboiut content-balance, which has been addressed.
The ultimate goal as far as skill points and the duty officer system is that if you were to spend 100% of your time with the system and were smart about how you did it, you could conceivably level at mildly better than half the speed you could if you were leveling through other methods [...]
Thanks for the speedy reply to my question, Heretic. I ask questions partly in the hope of clarification, and you've certainly provided that, yet again.
I do enjoy the doff game muchly, I just had visions of new players out-levellling a large portion of the playable content available to them, merely by enjoying the doff system too thoroughly from the beginning.
I was also concerned that playing the doff system might become seen as an optimal, or "most efficient" way to level up, which would kind of defeat the whole point of having all the playable content in the game.
I see now that methods are in place to keep /all/ play-options viable, and I'm happy with that.

At no point was I QQing. I asked a question in my role as a tester, and I offered a perspective to explain that question. If you're determined to insult me in this, I can only point to your posting icon and refer you to the dictionary definition of irony.
Almost a week of testing the Doff system and I still think slightly boosting Doff XP and slightly reducing Leveling/Bo XP is the way to go. While running plenty of Doff missions, I've still not made a Doff level yet. Yet levelling wise I made it from commander to Major general in 6 days. Bo's at full spec in just a few days.

I've started a separate thread about this.
