Dilithium required for crafting is great idea...but

Making dilithium a required component for crafting seems like a great idea on first consideration.

It makes dilithium more valuable. This has been a concern of many when contemplating the c-point/dilithium exchange. This goes further to answer the: why would someone buy dilithium question. But, it goes even further.

Once of the major reasons people craft other than to equip their own character(s) is to sell the crafted items and earn EC. This addition of dilithium as a crafting input gives players a way to turn dilithium into EC. And since it has already been stated that new EC uses are on the way, this is a good thing for people with a lot of dilithium convertables currently and/or those who will have time to get dilithium in the future.

This, will also make it possible that players with money will effectively be able to buy EC by buying c-points, trading them for dilithium, crafting items and then selling those items on the exchange.

However, this use of dilithium really needs to be simplified by having a new unbound component which can only be purchased for dilithium and then is used instead of dilithium in crafting in varing amount depending on the crafted item.

This all has the potential of creating a very vibrant economy; however, given the interdependecy of all the pieces there is also a great risk of a big mess developing.

If we are currently beta testing STO's upcoming asian twin, dilithium as crafting ingredient is for sure another brilliant idea...
