You must be joking right? I hardly consider the stats on this to even close to warrant "the highest damage weapon in game" or " the most powerful weapon system...."
Buddy just linked the Klingon version, i'm assuming they are exactly alike except for damage type, and its 158 damage for 211 dps? How does that justify having an additional penaly of a ALL THE TIME -10 to engine power?
I've got Mk 8 dual cannons that put out that much damage and they are WHITE quality.......hope it doesn't stay as is cus i just don't see how that will EVER get used with that crummy of stats.
funny thing is when i look at the white quality mark 8 dual cannons....it dawned on me tha the stats were EXACTLY THE SAME. So you pay a -10 engine power penalty for the honor of having the crappiest weapon mod x3 on the quad cannons? seriously? wow, just wow..........
Here are the stats for the cannons, I am ignoring the bonus stuff and showing just the base stats.
First the stats for the Quad Disruptor Cannons:
Mk X (Very Rare)
Energy Damage
45' targeting arc
to target: 199 Disruptor Damage (265 DPS)
to self: -10 Weapon Power when firing other weapons
to self: -10 Engine Power
to target: 2.5 Chance: 10% Damage Resistance Debuff for 15 sec
Now for the regular Disruptor Cannons
Mk X (Very Rare)
Energy Damage
45' targeting arc
to target: 178 Disruptor Damage (238 DPS)
to self: -10 Weapon Power when firing other weapons
to target: 2.5 Chance: 10% Damage Resistance Debuff for 15 sec
So it looks like the Quad Cannons are the best Mk X Cannons, but what about the Mk XII Cannons
Mk XII (Very Rare)
Energy Damage
45' targeting arc
to target: 196 Disruptor Damage (261 DPS)
to self: -10 Weapon Power when firing other weapons
to self: -10 Engine Power
to target: 2.5 Chance: 10% Damage Resistance Debuff for 15 sec
So it looks like the Mk X Quad Cannons are as good as the Mk XII Dual Cannons, and even have a better DPS than the Mk XII Dual Heavy Cannons.
Well, ignoring the item mods may be an issue - because what damage does a Mark X [DMGx3] weapon deal compared to that Quad Mark X?
As I've suggested before, it's going to be weak in PvP, more noticeable in PvE and drammatically more noticeable the longer the right where misses will be fairly low, especially against Borg.
It's an STF weapon. I think what people aren't used to is the idea that PvP weapons may not be the best thing in PvE anymore while top PvE weapons won't be as desirable in PvE.
For solo play on Normal, PvP weapons will be good enough. But start getting used to the idea of keeping separate gear sets.

True, so I went and looked on the Exchange on Holodeck. Did not find Disruptor Dual Cannons, and the stats for the Mk X were: 194 Disruptor Damage [258 DPS], however the a Mk XI was 202 Disruptor Damage [270 DPS]. So the difference is only 3 and 5 respectively. And the Dual Heavy Cannons were 405 Disruptor Damage [270 DPS], plus a +10% Critical Severity.
Agreed. Cannons need to scale with player level (which they probably will in a future build), and the one per ship limitation should be lifted. Keep the -10 to engines per cannon tho. -30 to engines is not a trivial issue to a BoP.

Got to admit, I would love to be able to put more than one quad cannon on a ship, but I don't see that happening.
one per ship kinda breaks "cannon" and that small a difference in damage does NOT warrant a -10 engine power. It's just not balanced to warrant that additional penalty with VERY minimal a benefit. We'll see how they look come live release i guess, but right now i don't see myself using them even though i think the fx/sound would be aweseom.
If they are going to have such a small amount of damage over other weapons systems i'd like to see someting along the lines of a reduction in the amount of weapon power used so in effect you'd get a little extra damage. Because with this example your having a weapon system costing twice the amount of power to fire (engine power lamely being a 100% cost all the time) and your getting a piddly 3-5 extra dps? cost/benefit ratio is WAY off on this one fellas.

I suspect most people will stick with the Heavies due to the bonus critical.
