problem with the DOff system

over the last week or 2 i've become a little addicted to the DOff system but i've noticed that it makes leveling a breeze.

i've got a klingon to MG2 having only done 2 story missions, 2 cluster tours and 1 chain of 3 foundry missions and this means that i cant get to borg space now without playing through the story missions to get access. add to that the low mark gear which makes the easiest of combat missions an easy wipe.

my point is basicly that the skill point bonuses are far too high (and the CXP is a bit low).

anyone agree? or disagree?

    In the pipeline are additional changes to depress skill point accretion rates and boost CXP rates.

    I just don't want to see the skill point rewards get so low that you can't use the system as an alternative (but somewhat slower) leveling mechanism, which was one of the stated goals.

    I agree that this game desperately needs some alternative to combat leveling. The DOff system provides a very good foundation to that alternative. Once I can spend a few hours each night enjoying my time with the DOff system and friends, rather than popping in to random systems and killing 5 groups of things, I will know the alternative leveling systems are just right.

    For now, if it took you 3 weeks to hit max level via the DOff system, that is not so bad. It has taken me 3 weeks via a mix of Explores, a few story missions and DOff assignments. It wasn't until Commander that I realized story missions gave about 10x more xp than Explores.

    I trust Heretic to continue expanding the DOff system and eventually other systems to help broaden STO's appeal.

    i just think it makes leveling so quick that with the new forced order to go through missions (which i think is not a good idea) that it actually limits what else you can do once you enter the higher ranks. and leaves you with almost no good gear.
