Borg salvage?

Since haven't got any, need ask where salvage from? Red alerts or any Borg ship?
Need be specific rank to get?
Just transferred my va to f2p to see how long to fully outship with Xii purples.

    As I understand it borg salvage is dropped only from STFs.

    And the prototype stuff, the stuff needed for MK XII purples, only drops on the elite modes of the STFs.
