So I have done a lot of respecing so I have no tokens on my VA so I transferred over and you cannot respec with anything but a token so its either the tokens you get on lvling or buy one from C store. Was this stated previously that you could not use dilithium to respec?
Well previously we got merrits/honor for respecs... but those are not only gone but it seems that we wont even get dellithium for the ones we have in the transition..
I believe the idea behind it is that we can trade dillithium for c-store points and by that we still can get respecs by ingame means. But I dont like that change, too... .
Add into this, the retrain token on tribble is 780CP, and on holodeck 400CP, it's a pretty big markup for something that essentially costs cryptic nothing.
Indeed, yet another example of Cryptic TRIBBLE over their subscribers.
Cryptic has a tradition of being opposed to the idea of respecs and for a good long time in City of Heroes, their stance was,"Delete and reroll."
That said... I liked the solution they came up with in City of Heroes. They had a moderately challenging mission that required 4-8 players. You only got respecs on successful completion. It supplied a lore reason for your respec by having you get irradiated, mutating you.
So it became a very social area where you could always find a group to run it. Any moderately competent group could run it too.
But I'd actually like it if more things hinged on running a specific encounter with a group as opposed to a simple currency transaction. I think that was one thing they got right in City of Heroes.
Imagine that for a respec, there's a mission that has you jump through the Guardian of Forever and go back to, say, 2399 to Earth or something like that. You alter history while defending Earth/Qo'noS. You come back. You get a respec.
But once again it shows us that Cryptic lies.
They told us we would notice little change, but the inability to respec without a Token is a MAJOR change that really puts the hurt big time on some of us.
I haven't checked the respec trainer yet on tribble, but for some reason I thought we'd get to do them for EC now, just like we get to respec BO's for EC. Please note that was just what I thought would make sense. You can even make it a money sink by requesting a hefty sum of EC for it.

Agreed. Energy credits, even if it was MILLIONS for a VA respec.. that would be fine.
The economy needs more money sinks, and this one seems like a good idea.
But to remove the ability to respec, outside of a token for the subscribers........... that is pretty lame.
They need to figure this out. The reasons for being a subscriber are getting smaller and smaller.
I am a lifer,.. so I am not going anywhere, but my friends have looked at the matrix and the benefits and can not figure out why you would ever subscribe, for what you get.
At the very least, subscribers should get like 1 respec token a month or something, because as it stands right now,.. there is really little reason to ever subscribe.
Many people concluded that if you start out new with the game it would be better to be a Silver player yes. I think that the current Gold subscribers will miss the many extra benefits they have now too much to go Silver though.
I mean, if I were used to half the inventory/ bank space I have now it wouldn't be a problem, but seeing it cut down in half would hurt a lot. Like you I'm a lifer though, so I'm not affected anyway. It's mostly the people that pay a monthly sub that will have to make the tough decision of giving up all the nice extra little benefits they currently have in favour of saving out some money.
New players would be best off as Silver players, unless they decide that they really love the game and want to get the full potential out of it. They'll likely spend at least some money on the c-store anyway, so Cryptic will still be getting their bucks.
Not that I'd be against special missions that reward players with Respec Tokens, of course, but a Respec token currently costs 400 points on the C-Store so assuming that price doesn't change, couldn't players refine and sell Dilithium for enough CP's to buy their Respec Tokens?

That's the thing, retrain tokens went from 400 CP on Holodeck to 780 CP on Tribble. That's almost a 100% increase in price. :-s
The way they have shoe horned the ship classes into being spread out on so many different skills, I really dislike such a high price being put on respecs. Do it like wow. Costs a little gold and then you are done. It is no big deal to try out a new spec and if you don't like it do something else. but over 2 and 1/2 months of stipend for 1 respec seems very steep. Make them caost EC if you ask me.

Not that I'm saying the price increase is a good thing, but this still doesn't negate your ability to grind for your Respec Token instead of having no other option than to spend actual money on it, right?

I know, but there is a ton of ships out there that I'd rather get instead. My main is the most respecced character I have and even she still had 4 retrain tokens left, so for me this isn't really an issue.
Still, it might become an issue in the future and I don't really like it that my ability to pay with merit was taken away and not replaced with something like EC or Dilithium instead.

You are assuming people are going to even put up CP for dilithium on the exchange. In fact everything cryptic is doing with the new economy is banking on this. I don't see this working as well as they hope, even if people do put up CP for dilithium it will be very overpriced.
I think it will work, currently CP is very much wanted for all the C-Store stuff you can buy with it, Dilithium is also becoming quite rare it seems with the crappy conversion rates. You pretty much end up with 2 rare goods that can be exchanged for each other.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of prices they'll exchange for (10k refinied dilithium for 100 CP maybe?), but I think it could work out well.
CP may be wanted and that is debatable but dilithium is less wanted. So why buy CP to put up for dilithium? Dilithium can be used for the same crappy gear you get for badges now. Farm for the good gear or buy it off the exchange for EC, no dilithium needed, and will take you less time than farming dilithium for the TRIBBLE gear. The best ships will be c-store only with no option to buy with in game currency, again no dilithium needed. Dilithium as a wasted currency and not worth anyone using CP to buy.

They are TRIBBLE us over by removing options and forcing us down a particular path.
On holodeck at present grinding ships costs emblems, grinding for respecs its merits.
However, they are bloody out of their mind if they are going to try to push the C-Store on us to get Respec tokens in the future.
With that kind of setup they FORCE us to choose between EITHER saving for a new ship OR respeccing.
That is something that is completely unacceptable.
Either Cryptic gives us a realistic option to grind for respecs such as through Energy Credits or a special mission, or else it only further confirms the fact that Cryptic is cheating us and telling lies to our faces.
CO has it in the C store, I'm sure they will keep it that way. It is just one more thing they've done to change things they said they wouldn't. I'm waiting to see what I get as compensation for my T3 Nebula, my guess... nothing.

How about you use a combination of your stipend, since you're a Lifer, and selling Refined Dilithium Crystals (RDC) for Cryptic Points (CP) once the option is available? Isn't that a realistic enough option?
Respecs should be offered via an ingame method as Dilithium or Energy Credits.
End of Story
STO has one of the worst skill systems of any MMO I have played with skills NOT TELLING YOU WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO unless you buy them and train them... or what affects what. That is absolutly stupid design and removing the ability to respec when folks naturally get screwed by it is disgusting practice.
Incidentally, Cryptic make a woeful habit of introducing these new consoles that will naturally have new abilities powers affected by skills or simply altering existing skills on whims.
YAY ! When Cryptic breaks something in the skill system so that powers are worthless... - Pay them to fix your character.
BRILLIANT STRATEGY !
Not to mention Cryptic are about to nuke the Skill system completely... yeah, who wants to bet Cryptic can release a fully functional Skill System without bugs or powers that work COMPLETELY the way they should straight out the box ?
This is the same Dev Team that has failed to make things like Teamwork ACTUALLY work since launch. GJ on QA guys.
Afterall... its only gonna cost folks a respec token every time Cryptic TRIBBLE a skill up or the players end up gimped.
A respec in Co is far different than in sto though. In champions you can rewrite your entire character. As if you rerolled. STO you are changing your specialty, but you are still a tac/sci/engi.
How about you use a combination of your stipend, since you're a Lifer, and selling Refined Dilithium Crystals (RDC) for Cryptic Points (CP) once the option is available? Isn't that a realistic enough option?
No it is not.
Respecs and Ship/gear costs should not use the same resource pool, thats just plain wrong.
At present on holodeck, all you need to do is "play the game" to eventually earn a respec, since every single mission under the stars grants Merits/Honor which can be saved up to respec for.
Respecs in CO are also 1000cp, not a "mere" 780cp.
Respecs are very different in CO, they hold allot more value. In CO a respec can complete change your class, like switching from engineer to a tac. For this reason respecs are not as easy to get because cryptic wants people to play the class they picked at the beginning more or less. Also they can respec for globals (CO version of EC) in CO.

So once STO goes F2P, you'd have to play the game, get your Dilithium Ore, refine it and then trade it for CP's which you'll then use to buy a Respec, or... you could just buy CP's directly and purchase the Respec.
All this seems very consistent, to me, with a F2P model that's based on items sold in an item store. They're simply slowing us down in everything we do so we're more exposed to the temptation of spending cash in the item-store.

Those shouldn't be expensive rewards from Cryptic's POV provided someone isn't using them constantly, in which case it does start to create a burden.
