Protip: Go to the launcher options and disable on-demand patching.

They really need some way to explain the whole on demand patching thing to players. many people dont have great connections and you can get very long loading screens.

will put some people off if they dont realise and dont ask on the forums.

In my opinion this should be disabled by default. I was surprised after coming back to STO on Season 4 to experience these long loading screens. Had to turn off on-demand patching myself. I'd rather download everything at once and play without issues rather than watch an entire trek episode while the map loads.

on demand is great if you have a really good connection speed, or if you know about it but if you dont it an be an issue.

i agree it should be off as default. when they did the switch over in season 4, most people who have an issue will have made some effort to work out what was wrong or may have seen the information or option by chance.

i worry that new players will just assume loading times are terrible by default or their computer is not good enough and not play it instead of investigating the issue.

id personally have this marked somewhere on the launcher, via a tab or something that people can look at, and maybe even mention it in game on the tutorial or bulletin board. This is something new players really need to know about and how it works.

It's a cheap version of WOW's on demand patching. In that game, it's almost uninterrupted as the patch is streamed as you play. Here, you just get a long download in between loading screens. Either put in proper on demand patching tech so it streams as you play, or turn it off by default. It would be better than this cheapo half-effort mess we have now.

I like on demand patching. less time on the launcher is a plus for me. and i don't waste time downloading things i will not use. and you only have to go thought the on demand patching once per mission / area. but there are good and bad points on both sides so i say to each there own.
