Entertain Forigen Dignitaries-FAILURE-All Doffs dead?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I just had total failure in the "Entertain Visiting Dignitaries" Doff mission...and now 5 of my Doffs are dead? Boy that must have been one hell of a party! Kinda like a Wild West Saloon where the party ends in a shootout.... lol.

I do think all 5 Doffs getting killed in a mission like this is a bit extreme...but funny all the same.

Its very extreme, and kind of stupid. I can understand Military and Espionage missions resulting in dead doffs but something like throwing a party is unnecessary.

Now THAT is a party for the record books... and possibly the police reports.

You know what they say about that planet? Don't drink the water...;)

Seriously though, that result does seem a bit extreme.

No doubt.... I think the devs still have quite a bit of tweaking to do. I mean if I spent 220 REAL cryptic points and lost 5 Doffs like this I would be very upset.

LOL..now thats funny considering I lost:

    1) My ONLY Counselor Doff
    2) Entertainer
    3) COOK! (TAPEWORM from hell...lol)
    4) Bartender
    5) Diplomat

The cook part was funny...guess thats what happens when you serve undercooked Heart of Targ.

I agree. I didn't even know they could die on missions honestly. Is this clearly posted somewhere? And I think it needs to be clearly defined what kind of missions they can die on. That just sounds crazy to me. (I personally have bought 2 "packets" of DOffs. If they die, I'm gonna be ****ed.

Don't know if it's clearly posted, but it's been mentioned several times by devs that white common DOFFs can die. The greens and better are safe though; at worst they just wind up in sick bay. There are issues with a lot of missions like this; I've heard of DOFFs going to sickbay after diplomatic document review missions, or getting injured or killed on "security briefings."

Oh, wow. That's sad cause a lot of my whites...especially my Colonial ones I only have one of. For me at least they're hard to come by....like I only have 1 trader, he's white, and I bought 2 packs from the store and did 2 missions that granted 5 random common DOffs. So, yeah...I'm sorta put off now. :(

One of the Doffs that died was not a white... (not going by border color, but by skills). He had 3 or 4 skills..so he was at least green.

If he wasn't green in color, then he wasn't green.

Imo the C-Store Boff package should not contain "any" Common's
Mainly because of the risk of loosing it and in so doing ending up actually loosing money.

I do think that the devs need to warn people better about the dangers of the DOff lifestyle, just so people don't feel like they're losing money when they buy their packs and their DOffs start disappearing. But some people don't mind throwing money at disposable stuff, so I see nothing wrong with selling the DOff packs. I won't buy them, but I'm sure a lot of other players will.

It takes me a long time to level characters, so the trickle of DOffs from recruiting assignements will be plenty for me.

Unless this last patch fixed this...Heretic has said the border colors do not mean Uncommon, Rare...or anything.

Its a known bug. I was freaking out when I bought like 5 Doff packs and NONE were Purple or blue (your supposed to get a Purple and some Blue with each pack).

See my post here http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=235285 and Heretic's answer about border colors.

Its all very confusing.... just because a Doff has a GREEN border..doesnt mean they are uncommon. You have to check the info tab for that Doff to see if they are uncommon....

So what does the border color mean... ???? who knows.

As I understand it, quality is the border colour (White/Green/Blue/Purple), rarity is the text (common/uncommon/rare).

Quality and rarity are not interdependant. You can have a common Purple officer with 1 trait, and you can have a very rare white officer with 4.

I also undertand that whether or not the DOFF can die on a mission is based on their quality, not their rarity. So that purple common with teh peaceful trait can be sent to single handedly assault a Qos'nos on his own, and the worst that can happen is a stay in sickbay, but that white rare DOFF with all the traits can burn himself to death trying to bake his captain a Tribble.

Tht bit that annoys me is, again, as far as I understand, success or failure of the mission has no impact on survival of your DOFFs. You can be reviewing a new BOFF candidate, get a critical success and earn yourself a purple BOFF, but the DOFF dies in the process of doing the review. (Makes some sense in the KDF, "Promotions shall be awarded based on a trial by combat system. FIGHT!")

The border color is quality. It works just like a green weapon vs. a white one, the green is better (higher color doffs have an innate improvement to success rates and better proc rates on their active roster powers), and are protected from death.

To answer some other things said in the thread:

The number of traits has nothing to do with rarity. A white Vulcan has Federation Founder, Telepath, and Logical. A green Vulcan has the same three traits. Some unique doffs (like the blue and purple Commendation rewards) have extra or just different traits, but standard doffs get their traits based on race, not rarity or quality.

Rarity is the part that has no real meaning. A Benzite is rare and a Human is common, but a white very rare is at the same disadvantage as a white common (same success rate, no death protection), and a purple common has the same advantage as a purple very rare.

The one Entertain Diplomats Assignment I tried so far, I hit a Crit.

    I sent:

Anna Crowell - Purple/Very Rare Human Female, a Civilian Diplomat.

Sherryl Luvenia Stanbrough - White/Common Human Female, Security Armory Officer.

Rulian Mazan - Purple/Very Rare El-Aurian Female (Nu-Guinan), Civilian Bartender.

Thomas Donovan Swoope - White/Common Human Male, Civilian Chef.

    and

Rafael Bryon Elsken - White/Common Human Male, Civilian Entertainer.

I hope there's an Orion Female Entertainer out there somewhere, I'd lover to send Her on one of these Jaunts. :D

hahaha Thats Hilarious!! I feel your pain, i have not had any die yet, but you are right, what the hell kind of party was that ?

I have similar concerns with my Doffs, when i find an ENTIRE Science team in sickbay after what should have been a harmless mission,

What the hell happened that my enitre sciecne team is in sickbay, when they were doing a mission in which no weapons were fired.

I have found that if you make sure that the total percentage of Success + Critical Success is greater than or equal to 80% on any particular assignment/mission, you'll have very, very few crew end up in Sickbay.

Also, sending white DOff's without any of the required traits, usually results in bad outcomes (Death).

We're still juggling with a lot of the numbers and balance, and there are still issues, bugs and unintended effects that we are weeding out.

We are adjusting fatality rates across the board, so if you see something that seems extreme, let me know and I will check it out, though it simply could have been a super bad roll when you did the assignment.

We are also putting in risk assessment display on assignments, so when that goes up it should make this sort of thing easier to calculate.

As for the quality versus rarity, we have already changed that C-Store packs are based on quality (color). Rarity is still going to exist otherwise, but it just means you'll get more humans than, say, Rigelians or Saurians.

I have done my best not to send my Doffs on missions that have a below 80% success rating (DOffs improve chances of success) and have never had any land in sickbay or die.
