The event calendar system is definitely one of the highlights of the F2P build. It offers a nice glimpse into the near future and see what is coming up. The MU event is fun and gives a good amount of XP. I just wish that you'd turn the Stadi back into an Odyssey-class ship, though.
Seeing the KDF Academy scheduled with the next batch of events has me excited. I look forward to taking a tour of that place. Good to know that it hasn't been pushed too far back.
nice. I have to admit the events thing is one of my favourite recent additions to STO, and I've been a regular participant in a couple of them. Nice to see it'll be getting even more stuff added.
Fleet Action Focus: We plan to focus on specific Fleet Actions, making it easier to get full groups during that hour since everyone will be wanting to play the same one. Extra rewards will be granted.
Thanks. Hope to see a lot of variety in events. Even if some events are only a weekly thing for example, or a seasonal thing.
Mirror Universe Incursion: Characters level 11 to 51 join via the PvE queue and fight a mirror universe attack while teamed with your fellow players. Players earn 5x kill XP during this event, so this is a great way to level up. There are separate time windows for Federation and KDF incursions
It would be nice if rather this was just "Incursion" with a different enemy each time. Alternate between KDF, Rom, Card/Dom, MU, Borg, Undine, Breen, etc.
Very nice.
Its something ive always felt STO was missing, a bit of events and stuff.
Now if only we could have "random events" happen.
Heh. I don't know what's more surprising: the 5x xp for an event (are the Borg events that much?) or that Alexraptor had positive feedback. I think its the later. Nice job Cryptic.
These things are indeed fun, but the Tour the Universe event needs to be more worth the time. I know Gozer's working on improving it, so it's a wait and see.
But the Fleet Action Focus worries me because people been asking for over a year to fix the Fleet Actions. This is primarily why nobody even bothers with them anymore.
Gekli has been broken for a year.
DS9 is offline.
Crystaline Enity is only doable by a coordinated effort in a Private Queue.
Big Dig takes tooooooo long and was not modified for the new Ground Combat.
Scout Force too needs tweeked for the new Ground Combat, and the Klingon version needs to have those objectives fixed.
Minefield, well Klingons get it easy with their version while Federation have to go through 4 heavily guarded asteroids to get their objectives.
SB24 - people want the ground portion back so they can do the mission.
And most people I talk to rather have the old non-queued Fleet Actions back.

Agreed. I would be nice if those were fixed before the changes hits Holodeck. However, I doubt that will happen so please don't put them in events or the PvE queues. Seems obvious but these are the kind of things that get overlooked.
I like the idea of the Fleet actions being added in, but they need to be polished first.
The Big Dig needs to stop having use run through the same place 5 times, and have all the mobs re-spawn every few minutes, its not fun, its a huge freakin grind.
Gelki herding has never worked well/right, and its very easy to bug one out making the even impossible to complete.
Gorn Minefield needs to have re-spawns turned off. When you kill a ship it shouldn't come back.
Klingon Scout Force I think is one of the best done Fleet Actions, mostly because after you clear a zone it doesn't re-spawn, except the defense platforms. It would be nice if the cloud effect around the boss ship was toned down a bit.
SB24 is also pretty good, except for phase 2 spawning on top of phase 1, often letting you get creamed if you are too far in trying to kill ships.
As for the overall events system, I think more overlap is needed, and some events should maybe run for longer blocks of time. Its a bit of a bummer when the current event is KDF and I'm not, and I'm sure they feel the same way about FED events while no KDF ones are up.
You guys @ Cryptic really know how to hide a dilithium grindfest behind a shinny "Event" don't ya?
lol.
Eh, some of the newer events (Mirror especially) are pretty cool, anyway. But yeah, some of the older stuff needs to be fixed as well, and added back for players. The older current broken stuffr.
We have additional events in development to provide even more options to players. Some of the ones we expect to try out on Tribble in the next few weeks include:
Borg Ground Invasion: Our first large-scale ground combat event map. We're having fun playing this one in the office and are looking forward to it getting on Tribble.
When this event is released on Tribble players can discuss the event with other players by joining the REDALERT [TTS] channel, and for Holodeck it will simply be the REDALERT channel.
I look forward to testing the new events Cryptic has in mind. There are quite a few things with the existing ones which still require fixing and testing however. In addition to the DOff system, the new events system should add a lot more variety to the end-game player.
"Foundry Expedition: Play Foundry content during this hour to gain extra rewards."
can we have some more info on how this will work?
there are missions that can take several HOURS (and you do NOT know it when you randomly start one), how will those work with an hourly event?
there are also endless of these *one click* exploit missions to get that daily done in no time...
(which for sure have all been reported multiple times and not been pulled).
i fear an additional reward, that is also time limited, will only drive more players to these *click the console* missions.
seriously... something intelligent has to be done about those.
( if you start banning, i fear the server would be empty afterwards )
maybe the wrapper quest could be changed into *spend one hour in foundry mission maps*... instead of *complete 3/3*. at the very least that would stop the exploit-missions from working... and we also could get a proper reward for missions that take forever
my worst foundry mission so far took me 5 hours to complete (lots and lots of text, but awesome story and maps), and i had to do it in 2 afternoons... result 1/3 of the daily finished *duh*...
these live events are a good move, especially in such a fragmented game instance wise it's a good way to get us in the smae place.
I'd like to suggest making some of these revolve around certain pvp maps as well, as currently pvp is a long wait to get in on , some incentive and direction would help in getting maps to launch.
I've mentioned it before but now that there is a blog about this new UI I'll say it here too.
This needs to be tied in to the Fleet Events UI so that if a fleet have an event coming up their members can see it here as well when it is about to happen.
Why?
Becuase let's face it, how many time do we open up the Journal UI with this new feature and how often do we use the Fleet UI?
The Journal UI is used much more often and it does have a natural connection that Events would be viewable in a Calendar.
oh here goes just to keep the universe from collapsing.
Im not sure about the borg invasion being an event (assuming it is as it sounds). i was hoping that would be an open map you could drop in an out of rather than on a timer. i understand that the map missions may work on a timer itself but it would be nice to visit the map any time during the day and have maybe one or two smaller missions there, then the borg attacks occur at certain times.
or i would hope that maybe that cycles around fair quickly, as not everybody can play at the hours listed on the window. I just think it would be bad if certain people miss it because the window does not coincide with their free time and real life.
So does this mean we're not getting the Borg ground invasion until after free to play goes live. If so gotta say i'm dissapointed. Was hoping we would get this next month .:(

Should definately make things more interesting when they all go live
Woot!
Question: Will we also get things like Halloween/Christmas/New Year events? (Star Trek themed ofc)

that is a great question! with special themed rewards that you can only get at that time of yr during those events!. that would be awesome.
World of Warcraft have it.

What's wrong with queued Fleet Actions?
