I have finally come to a Conclusion of the Dilithium Shortage.
The Devs are Intentionally Starving the Player base of Dilithium. They are doing this to actually make us semi desperate for it.
So that when they in time allow Dilithium trading for C-store points we will actually Do it. In STOked a Dev actually said, there will be NO trading between players. As it will all be on a bidding exchange.
I feel what they are going to do is in the Last week of testing when we are really really desperate for Dilithium, they will then Discontinue the C-store, to deny us the ability to Spend those points, forcing us to get ships in game, gear in game, yet keep the Points there.
At which point people will buy and sell large amounts of Dilithium for the C-store points. Yet never be able to actually redeem those points so they stay IN system.
This explains WHY the Daily missions have starved us on Dilithium. Forcing us to grind the ore, and other stuff. To attempt to keep the Economy in Check. That way at the MOST we might be able to get is a single ship or two.
I came to this conclusion when a friend was leveling up , and the could not skip the /select your captain ship/ when they had made Rear Admiral in a tier 3 cruiser excelsior, and now they have only 13,000 dilithium.
I understand and can accept the fact of wanting us to make heavy use of Dilithium c-store point trading system. BUT I AM TO SAY THE LEAST NOT HAPPY AT ALL with the shortage being SO SEVERE that we can't afford the ship at our tier right off. Because of this I have to warn people that I am fairly sure 95% that on tribble there will be absolutely no free ship tokens.
The reason being is if they include the free ship token, we could simply make a new toon to get a proper ship at the correct level. Have one toon at Vice Admiral in a tier 3 ship, and then make a new toon we can level up and get the free ship tokens yet not need as much Dilithium. Because there are numerious systems in game that give level correct gear for your ship, beam weapons, torpedos some cannons, ect ect.
To the Devs who read this. You could have gotten similar data on Dilithuium trading by NOT starving us this badly. Give us the Free ship token, and give us a small amount of Dilithium as well, like 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000. At levels 11, 21, 31, 41.
Then put in game a merchant that has HIGH END GEAR for sale ONLY by DILITHIUM. Gear that can include things like the following
Phaser Beam array MK XII ACC x3, CRTH x3, CRTD x3, DMGx3
Impulse engines in normal Hyper, and combat with things like
Turn X3, Fullx3, SPD x3
MK XII purple Very rare consoles.
I don';t know about anyone else, BUT I would actually want such gear for a character. But NOW, we are so starved we have to choose what to do, We need to pick and choose what to do.
The idea is a good one to make us hungry for Dilithium. But the way you implemented it, I and so many others are very unhappy, and upset. And I am sure that you have seen a number of forum posts, and a number of them are very, very rude and insulting.
I hope that the DEVs who read this take no offense. But I wanted you all to know I am EXTREMELY unhappy with the current status system on Tribble.
Wow, I thought I was paranoid. It doubt it is intentional honestly, there are not many ways of gaining dilithium as of yet but I don't think it will be all that common in the long run either. There is an intentional run at the cstore but customer complaints are helping to sort those out, they will be giving free ship tokens up to rear admiral again, just not at vice admiral but the equipment prices are seriously skewed right now.

Though, the Devs have said the item costs were "potentially an order of magnitude" too high. We're still waiting on a patch for that, but on this one issue, I'm inclined to wait until after the next patch to scream that the sky is falling.

I just hope your ready to join us in screaming it afterwards when little changes.
They could cut prices on gear in HALF and DOUBLE daily refinement and its still broken. People have done the math, its many months to fully gear an Admiral ship as it stands right now on F2P Test Server. Its a few hours on Holodeck.
6 Months to gear (F2P) vs 4 hours to gear (Holodeck, right now)
If they make it 3 months to gear, I bet half the people say "Thanks for listening! Its much better now!".... Even though it would still be horribly broken.
Right now the sign says "Horse Manure - $17,500 a pound." People all agree that is too much.
Tomorrow it will say "Horse Manure - $2,000 a pound."
....And half the people will rejoice.
Holodeck = Fun, right now. I am not a cryptic hater, Holodeck offers a great game right now. F2P Test is not fun, and not even a game unless your ready to equip your ship with your credit card.
yeah changing a game as they are is like Star wars galaxy changing their game and look what happened to that game. Ithe old addage comes to mind if its not broken do not fix it.
Adding new things is great but when you drastically change a game then that is where the problems lie.
I don't mind if it takes a couple weeks to gear up mk 11 purples, but this, 500+ days sh-t to gear up is moronic.
For the record, when I said it takes a few hours to gear up I was of course talking about greens. The bare essentials to make your ship run right. I also agree a couple weeks for purples is probably fine. I figure I better clarify that so I dont sound like a "I want everything free guy"...
But yeah, an afternoon grinding should definitely cover your basic, appropriate level consoles according to your fit.
I'd bet....A LOT.... that the same afternoon grinding will no longer be an option on F2P live. Not even for the gold members who pay, and just want the same quality product we are used to.

Plus we get to craft even number gear when this goes live so that should help.
Since they got on their "Grinding is fun" kick I also doubt the devs care. They are changing almost the entire game mid course which never works.
This. I don't know why they think players will actually sell Dilithium. Everyone is going to be so starved for it that no one will ever have enough. Thusly, every single person is going to be grinding their lives away.

What do you need dilithium for at endgame now? They changed it so that BOff training is energy credits. Most ships are C-Store.
Sure, there's gear but I think I'll probably focus on gearing through STFs and DOff system, crafting and mission rewards, which are all faster last I checked. (They did lower dilithium prices too.)
If you want dilithium stuff so bad, I'd much rather have the C-Points at this stage.
I'm still a bit baffled by their need to still have three separate economic systems (using three different unrelated currencies) in their game when all other games I know of need only one; or at worse a conversion rating of one to the other like the famous 1000 copper pieces =100 silver pieces = 10 gold pieces = 1 platinum piece of Dungeons & Dragons' old glory days...
Dillithium are supposed to be almost worthless in the game timeframe, at least as a valuable currency, as even canon says that now it can be recrystallised indefinitely while still in use in the articulation frame of starships since a hundred years now...(ref Geordi to Scotty in TNG Relics), It's like someone today using silex to pay something... So, why bother, unless it is to, what, like having the ''mining ore'' dull mechanic of EVE Online?
And only Ferengis and other non-aligned worlds or those dealing with them use gold-pressed latinum (heard of only starting with DS9). If this (canon) monetary element is still wished for in-game, a simple conversion scale of credits (the canon stippend of Starfleet officers since TOS) to those (or any other) would have been simple and quite sufficient.
But it seems like this need for a confusing, useless multiplicity of currencies that is part of this game from day 1 is hard to shake off.
Why make things simple when you can complicate them?
Seems to be Cryptic's philosophy.
Just my two cents... (aaaargh! not another currency!)
Honestly, for all the talk about currencies, I don't know any MMO with fewer than 10 currencies (WoW may be down to around 5 major ones) and many games have hundreds of them if you're counting Latinum here.
