Ok so i made a new character. My only issue i have right now is the fact that you start out as an upper level Lt. Commander using Lt. Weapons and ship. Can we make it so at least you can choose what u want to fly and have weapons to match level.

Have you finished the missions at Qo'nos? that gets you your next ship along with two exploration missions for 1440dil each.
Same here ive made it to Commader 3 and it says for me to pick out my new ship but dont have anuff dilithium. Can we fix that, i would hate to go threw Capt and still be in a Lt ship.
Yep, the new Klingon experience kind of sucks right now. You start out at LtCmdr with a T2 ship (great), but nothing but Mk2 gear. Almost immediately, before you even have a chance to explore outside of Qo'noS, you're bumped to Commander in grade, although you can't afford the ship yet.
And in order to get the ship, you have to go out and grind for Dilithium as a Commander with Mk2 equipment.
I have started a couple of new KDF toons on the F2P server and there is a SERIOUS issue here.
With the lack of KDF content making levelling up a KDF character a bit of a grind, Cryptic's wise descision was to say, rather than create new content, we will cut down on the grind by starting characters higher up.
So here is the problem.
You start as a very high up LtCmdr (after one proper mission you will be Commander).
You start in a LtCmdr ship.
You start with Lt. level gear.
You start with Ensign level BOFFs, no EC, no Dil.
Since all the enemies in Missions now match your level you will be fighting will be top level LtCmdr, and very soon Cmdr level, and herein lies the problem. You are outmatched and outgunned.
It isn't really the ship that is a massive problem. With the Dil earned from Lore/Foundry and an explore or two, you can have your Commander ship. However, this requres you not to spend Dil on anything else.
So, you can't buy more Boffs. You can't train your Boffs in any skills that you may want/need (you are just stuck with the 3 granted at the beginning and what they have preloaded.) You can't buy more gear that is to your level. (Either decent green/blue from the Dil vendor, or even plain white from the EC vendor due to lack of EC)
The fight with Tarsen's Mogai escort in the first true mission was pretty tough for me - I died alot, and I wonder how a player completely new to the game would cope. My thought would be that they would say "to hell with this" log off and go play something else.
I can see what you are trying to do. You have listened to the community saying that the KDF grind is boring, being stuck doing PVP, FA or whatever. However, the quick solution of cutting down ranks you need to grind is not the right one - at least not implemented as it now is on Tribble.
The mismatching of gear/Boff skills and to some extent ship at the level you are fighting makes it too hard - I would rather that I started at Level 1 and played against enemies that matched that level!
I hope that my explaination of the above has been clear enough and hope that you take a look at this. Thanks.
An easier fix would be to provide more appropriate starting equipment and BOffs, I think. I saw the Mk2 items and assumed that it was a bug, left over from Holodeck (where every KDF character starts with that).
Putting the level-up so quickly after the starting level is a hurdle, though. Even if you start with Mk4 stuff, you'll immediately need to change it out for Mk6.
The BOff issue is trickier though, since short of just handing you every BOff reward that you missed in the first 18 levels, I'm not sure how to handle this. For sure though, at least equipping you with a range of officers that match you level (and a number that can fill your starter ship!) is necessary.
This whole thing is further muddied with the overarching bug with training BOffs, and the KDF-specific issue regarding reward-BOffs (ie, there aren't any at all!). Fixing this won't solve the problems above, but it will make them less painful during testing.
I kinda get the impression that the klingon changes are a temporary measure until they have a Klingon Academy affair worked out, at which point they offer Klingon and Fed starting characters at level 1.
Yes, this needs to be fixed for now, but not broken so it can still be used later when the Klingons are their own complete faction.
IMO a "complete" KDF faction is a long way into the furture. I wouldn't hold my breathe. Cryptic is struggling since before release to create a decent KDF and has not achieved it so far.

I seem to vaguely recall that one of the stipulations of PW taking over was the promise to create a complete Klingon faction. I don't recall where I read it though.
Even if you start with Mk4 stuff, you'll immediately need to change it out for Mk6.
From my experience, the maximum mark equipment of the prior rank is still viable for at least the first few grades of the next rank. Mk 4 equipment should tide you over at the beginning of Commander... well, at least until you can fund replacements for Mk 5 and Mk 6.
I agree, though, that having Mk 2 equipment and then being bounced into Commander work and being unable to afford your Commander ship (I was 2000 dilithium shy!) after doing the first two story missions is kind of... uncomfortable. I found myself cursing the Bird of Prey I was flying (which is appropriate since BoPs as a whole are supposed to attack in groups) and when I finally was able to afford my next ship I breathed a great sigh of relief. This was after struggling through on-level exploration missions in two clusters. So, note, I did 8 missions before switching to a new ship after finishing on Qo'nos. I did hit Commander part of the way into my first Explore.
Maybe implement a ship choice when you start up somehow? That way you could get some mileage out of the other two ships (Raptor and Cruiser). Admittedly, if you're playing a Klingon, you've played a Fed for a little while, so you know what you want to do (hopefully). Also this way you can start tailoring yourself for the ship type you really want without blowing that first respec (which I don't think the Silver people are getting).
I'm kind of wondering what all the fuss is about here. I started a new KDF character on Tribble yesterday and levelled her to CMDR 2. All I did was the missions offered on Qo'nos itself and the first few nebula missions you get offered (they give circa 1,400 dilithium each), none of the story missions.
By the time I visited the shipyard for my promotion, I had circa 12k dilithium with which to purchase my 10k CMDR ship. Admittedly, I have little to no dilithium left over to upgrade my ship's weapons but no point in getting everything in one go, where is the incentive to gain more stuff if you get it all straight away.
Despite the fact that the ships encountered in those nebula missions were my level +/- 1 and I had only MK2 equipment and poorly trained BOffs on my starter BoP, I had no trouble completing those missions - in fact I thought it nice to actually have a mild challenge during the battles for a change. Now, I'll admit I haven't tried the story missions yet and they may have tougher enemies but there is nothing hard about starting a KDF char and getting your CMDR ship on tribble right now.
I actually feel the current shortage of dilithium is a good thing as it make you choose between purchasing a bigger ship but having to keep your weak weapons a bit longer, or upgrading your weapons but keeping your weak ship a little longer.
The KDF side of things is still in need of much work but it really isn't half as bad as I keep reading on here. Sorry all, Klingons don't get it easy, we have to work for our gains (unlike the Feds), which is probably why Klingons usually beat Feds when they fight.
yes, it is tough, and deciding my fed character on here would go on advanced difficulty, has made the whole tribble experience...challenging. which i like. it should be harder, you should die a lot...but only after you get captain, after you get the ship you want, and everything how you want it.
anyways, yeah, its a problem, for now, on here. i cant think of any suggestion theyre already working on
