Captain, I'm Not Getting Any Response from the Hotbar

So you're in space combat, or ground combat.

You press your button on the hotbar for that last minute heal or recharge or whatever.

It does not occur.

Defeated window pops up on your screen.

Why is the hotbar so slow? It is the most annoying thing ever, especially in STFs and particularly for those throwing heals to teammates.

Is it that tap is different from press?

I suspect it has something to do with the macro limiter STO uses. Macros won't work if they activate commands faster than a person could just by pressing the keys; there has to be delays in them which reduces the usefulness of macros significantly. If you notice, pressing or clicking commands in STO too quickly is the reason they don't go off, and if you're dragging items from inventory to your bank too quickly that won't work either. You have to do it slowly and deliberately ('click, pause, item responds, move to bank and drop, repeat'). If this is the cause of the UI issues we're having it will never be fixed. That's probably also why Cryptic has never commented on it ("um, yeah, we deliberately borked our own UI to limit player options"). This is also one of the reasons people have trouble jumping in Infected. There's about a half-second delay from the time you press 'Jump' to your toon actually jumping.

I'm constantly (as in, every fight) having weapon fire and BOff power commands ignored. Ground is far worse than space. I stopped playing STO back when escorts got nerfed mainly because of UI issues. I came back months later and the issues were still present. Post-S4 they seem worse. The bargain-basement UI has been my biggest Cryptic complaint since CO went live. CO had UI issues. STO has UI issues. I played EQII for years and never had problems like this, so it's definitely a Cryptic problem.

The UI is one of those things that will never be fixed because it's apparently outside of Cryptic's desire or ability to fix it. From their perspective, the UI issues have been here since launch and we've lived with it. The F2P newbies can too.

Is this really true? The UI has been broken since launch? Several times over the last week, I have failed missions, and worse, failed teammates because I cannot fire any weapons or heal any shields! It's not just a hotbar issue, the keybinds don't work either. It usually takes at least 1 respawn, and sometimes more, to fix the issue. That is unacceptable.

I only just started playing in july, and only just learned about keybinds a few weeks ago. I am shocked that cryptic intentionally breaks keybind function. That's unbelievable.

there was a dev post a few weeks back about the UI being singled threaded and buggy as hell, but basically too complicated to fix... the usual: it ll happen soon™ (aka season 15-18ish)
