It's a good sink. It's kept my tribble character from getting rich - I'm hovering around 50k, when my main was pushing his second million by this level, and that's considering how much EC I wasted buying equipment on that character, where this time around I've found ways to keep myself adequately equipped without spending my currencies.
It's probably not all the sink we need just because of the sheer volume of EC backed up in the economy, but it should put some good brakes on it continuing to spiral out of control.
It's also a good sink in that it's only as much of one as you make it. The trade commendation can be entirely self-funding if you take your time with it, and there are "free" missions in every other category, just a lot of really big payoffs from dumping the resources.
Purchasing DOFFs on the cstore is little more than a lottery, you either get a pack of white TRIBBLE ones or you might get some rares. Trading card games have been that way since they came with gum and in packs of cigarettes.

Actually you always get uncommons and at least one rare. It's not a lottery. In the case of Doffs uncommon, rare and very rare are determined more by race the quality. Human is common, white vulcan is uncommon and it goes up from there. It's not a c-point sink I only bought two paces and I only did that because I was impatient for my recruitment misisons to hit. With time you can fill your roster easily without ever touching a c-store pack. I am afraid I am going to have to say you are way wrong on this one.
I guess I'm crazy, cause I must be the only player who thinks we don't need an EC sink. My character on Holodeck, a VA, has only roughly 1 million EC. Considering EC is not rewarded for any missions anywhere, I don't see how we need any sinks.
On Tribble, I avoid any assignments or missions that costs me EC because I don't even have enough EC to purchase proper, level adequate gear for my ship or my away team.
It's frustrating; I feel like there's some secret to making money in STO that I'm not privy to, and you don't make millions of EC by running missions.

You make EC one of two ways. Either get a lucky drop and sell it for tons of EC on the exchange or you simply run a ton of exploration missions and sell all the TRIBBLE white drops you get.

Yeah, I sold some rare particle traces on Holodeck way back when I was trying to make purple Mk XI gear - I'd almost never get the rare traces I needed, so I had to buy them, hence I needed money. Selling stuff on the exchange did alright, but it never got me overloaded with EC and it was generally unreliable since the prices fluctuated so much. One week, the particles I had would sell like hotcakes. The next, I could barely give them away.
I suppose I'd see the need for a cash sink if we actually had a steady flow of incoming EC. Since we don't, I can't support the idea of adding any more EC sinks. Constant EC sinks without constant EC generators are going to do nothing but destabilize the 'economy' further than it already is.

Agreed. Don't know where all this talk about needing an EC sink comes from. I can barely reach 1 million on a character.

Assuming that they are still going to setup fleet owned stations, I think that will probably be a great ec sink.
How is it a c-point sink?
