That is a good question, it would indeed put a kink in the whole dilithium plan if we long time VA's were able to have our merits worth...I hope we do though, it would be a cheap shot if they did not convert.
Either way, I hope we will hear from an official source *very* soon. That way, we can plan accordingly and with sufficient time to take care of things.
Well, I collected a couple of them on Tribble before the patch to the BO trainer. Since they are not listed anywhere and I did not get additional Dilithium it looks like they are gone with the wind. The reason might be, that they haven't done anything for conversion rates and technology yet, but my benefit of the doubt counter for Cryptic is close to overheating.
Cryptic may be kind enough not to wipe the characters of holodeck... instead they are just gonna wipe the entire currency system, put ships behind paygates and effectively nuke the existing playerbase so they are stuck have to re-acquire currency.
Exchange Rate ? - You seriously think Cryptic are going to offer anything less than the worst exchange rate possible AND it will be into ORE, not Refined. Thus your stuck spending days, weeks, months converting your stockpiles.
All the more to ensure Cryptic encourages C-Point purchases naturally.

Let's see
Badges (for PvP) - Dilithium
Marks (for exploration and anti-borg) - Dilithium
Merts (BOFF training and renaming) - Not heard, but doubt they will delete entirely
As for turning them to Ore, I doubt it, as that if you noticed the missions that gave out emblems gave out refined Dilithium first, now Ore, and of course, you can think "oh I can by XX with my Dilithium and give it to X toon" -- er nope, that's already been mentioned as that they are BoP, so... ya naffed, even Di and DiO are not going to be allowed to be traded, except for CP's.
Note, all information is from various dev posts and the interviews with Cryptic that STOked has done, there maybe some change down the line to the ideas, but not known at this moment in time.
if they delete all currencies and boil it down to just energy credits and dilithium then there better be alot more ways to aquire dilithium both refined and non refined then there is now. As it is you get various currencies doing just about anything you do, it would be EXTREMELY tedious of the only way to pay for anything, essentially anything important will be paid for with dilith, then it better be as easily obtained by various means instead of simply by a few daily missions you can do.
I think we should have energy credits, merit/honor, and dilithium.....even then it should not be a super grind fest to make money.......but that is looking like the order of the day. make it unbearable to do much of anything such as training boffs and outfitting ships. If they make it so you can only refine so much per day unless some special event/mission comes up then at least make it so its not super tedious to aquire the dilithium needed to refine. I don't want to spend HOURS per day just grinding out refined dililithu to then convert it into my daily allowance that essentially boils down to making minimum wage job as far as alll the expenses we're going to have in the game.
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.......
Cryptic has said, multiple times, that when Dilithium goes live on Holodeck they will convert existing currencies that are going away into Dilithium.
On Tribble they don't have any idea of what the conversion rates for that should be, that's why we're testing the new economy on Tribble, and we were never supposed to get Merits on Tribble to begin with, that was a bug from the first Tribble build.
While I can guarantee you're not going to get 91K dilithium for having 91K merits, I'm pretty sure you're going to get some dilithium for having merits.

Not? Well on Holodeck I can buy a common BOff at the vendor for 100 Merits, the same BOff on Tribble costs 240 refined Dilithium. So no, I don't expect my amount of Merits converted 1:1 into Dilithium, I'm expecting a 2.4 increase.
If we are to loose merits/honor, they better convert them into the appropriate currency (dilithium/EC). If they just vanish, that's gonna be REALLY upsetting!
also, will missions hand out dilithium in place of merits now?
How fun it will be having a refine cap of 8K that has to cover, Ship purchases, Equipment, Respec, Officer Training, captain renames, officer renames and anything else Cryptic ties to it.

Not normal story line missions. Exploration missions, that are now dailies, are supposed to provide you with Dilithium but it looks that, at some point, you've outleveld them and they only give skill points. My VA on Tribble is stuck with the B'Tran exploration that still gives Dilithium, Foundry Daily, Neutral Zone, PvP and the Starfleet Academy thing. The Breen Daily only show skill points and no Dilithium, too. You see, the sources are rather limited.

The sources are TOO limited, especially with dilithium taking a much larger role in comparison to emblems.

Marks - Gone
Merits - Gone

That would make far too much sense.

And eventually it would leave us with enough resources to do all the things we'd like and have to do with it. Definitly a no-go in a perfect world.
Nice one. :P
Never sell your company to an oxymoron is the lesson here I suppose.
