Game Feel VS Game Mechanics

Hi, my name is kavos, I’ve been playing almost from launch and this is my thoughts on how the player base currently has a problem with dilithium.

Perhaps some of the problem people are having with the changers on tribble at the moment are more word based than game mechanic based? In Star Trek you don’t see captains trying to scrape around enough dilithium to pay for a ship upgrade, or to buy a new ship. What you see are captains and crews doing there best to improve themselves, their ship, the lives of others and the federation.

Perhaps calling this new economy dilithium was a mistake? Why not instead call it commendation points or the like? As you progress on goals that advanced the cause of the federation, saves lives and so on and so forth, raise your image in the eyes of the Starfleet brass. So when you go to upgrade your phasor array to that nice new shini purple set, you don’t have to ‘bribe’ the brass with a stock of dilithium, you call in some of that respect that you’ve earned?

It would essentially be the exact same system (minus the ore which admittedly I’m not quite sure of the point of besides thematic purpose.) but it would chance the way we the players see our advancement.

Instead of slaving away for our Starfleet over lords were improving the federation and her ideas and along the way we earn the respect of the brass.

Also while I doubt anything would be done if you wanted some form of hard currency for non-federation species, why not use Gold Pressed Latinum, its already been established that many cultures use it as a currency in Star Trek, is already in game, and could be used for non-federation/klingon stores (assuming new ways of earning GPL is added besides playing dabbo.)

Whether this would have any difference I’m not sure but that’s my two cents on the matter.
Kavos.

Thats because they dont care about being true to Star Trek, they are turning STO into a Grindy Action Game where levels dont mean anything and your purpose to grind grind grind or buy from the C Store

The reason for the trek name but lack of feel I assume is because of the dilithium ore. In order to make farming less appealing they needed a way to limit the amount you could make in a given day. A name change is not out of bounds but unlikely in my opinion.
