Hi everyone!
Like some others out there, I had mixed feelings about the refining process of dilithium ores (sorry for the haters, but I think I have to do some more math before I can hate the system
). I'm pretty sure it will change many times before the F2P hits Holodeck - as the devs said -, but maybe a good solution could be realy easy.
Let's remove the refining limit per day, but let's pay EC to refine dilithium!
Here how I came with this...
The present refining limit seems too low, given the present prices, and many want it out of the door as soon as possible... but a big part of the refining limit seems bound to the plan to avoid the possible dilithium inflaction that could strike like it did with the EC. Talking about EC inflaction, I read more than one dev's post about the search for good EC sinks (as shown buy the "teleport-to-mission" EC cost and the EC cost for some of the things that previously were paid with merits and honor...), so I came out with this idea that can get the classic two (maybe three) birds with one stone.
If we have to pay EC to refine dilithium, the EC will get a good sink as everyone will have to refine their dilithium ores to get ships and gear them; also, having to pay EC will put a "soft" control on dilithium circulating as not everyone will be allways able to refine as much dilithium as he wants. Last, but not least, this way we could have a new difference between silver and gold members as the former have an EC limit in place while the latter haven't.
I even came with a possible cost for the refing: something like a 25 EC/ore: this way, to refine 8000 ores would cost us 200.000 EC... at lower level it would be a great deal of EC, but we won't need all that dilithium after all, while at higher level, it would be somehow less hard to get those money... but the dilithium demand would be greater and so the EC sinking... and if the respecs - we used to pay with merits - would be paid with dilithium, the whole dilithium economy would be an enormous EC sink at endgame.
To be honest, I also see a possible problem in this easy solution: this way the dilithium economy would be somehow connected to the EC economy and the economy of the game, as a whole, would became a really complex system not at all easy to monitor... but maybe it can be worth a thought.
On a side note, having to spend EC to refine dilithium seems also great on the RP side as it would be the energy needed to operate the machinery used to do the job
