I find it interesting that for all this year, we have been told how great things will be when this happens. There have been all kinds of reports since July about what is going to happen. In none of those reports did they say 'exploration missions will be dailies.'
I find it interesting that this important information was not made public until after the patch was release.
I find it even more amazing that no one at Cryptic Studios thought this was a 'dumb' idea.
So, not only are we limited to one exploration mission each day, but we cannot even get the reward bu once a day.
So, what exactly is the player suppose to do?
Story missions on their own will not provide enough income to acquire anything 'useful' in the game. And, so instead of doing exploration missions, we are stuck doing the same 'story-line' missions over and over again until we make enough money to update the ship and crew equipment.
So, now, we as a player base are now going to be able to sit back and see how long it takes the 'Sharp-minds' at Cryptic Studio to realize, this is a doomed effort.
I wonder if they even understand how this is going to negatively impact players response to the C-Store event happening this weekend? Or, will they be shocked come Monday, that it was a bad idea.
We will see.
The ship went from a small leak to a big hole and the water is coming in faster now.
This is a titanic disappointment. Its like any other PW game now, better have a LOT more than $15 a month to spend to get the same functional game you have today on Holodeck
If you're already gating the amount of refined dilithium flowing into the economy by handing out ore and restricting its refinement, there is literally no reason to limit exploration missions to dailies unless it's a game-breaking problem that players earn the exploration accolades too quickly.
If you put too many hurdles on the track, the race stops being fun.
I have to agree with the sentiment of this thread. Doing exploration missions was always a reliable way to level up and get yourself properly geared. There are accolades tied to them as well. I don't think those accolades were created on the assumption that these missions would be dailies!
This decision should be rethought. Find some other way to keep exploration missions from being exploited, and return them to non-daily status.
Make a new Daily mission for exploration that gives dilithium, and leave the current system alone. I always loved going to do cluster missions when I was bored.
I completed my daily for today. There is no reason to play anymore today. I was excited about using the C-Store this weekend. Now I feel like I am being ripped off. I do not want to spend any money now because of some moron thinks making dailies is a 'great' idea. I rather stay with the badge system.
I am totally against this move from Cryptic Studio. This is the defining moment for them, like NGE/CU was for Sony Entertainment with Star Wars Galaxies. SOE went to it's death with SWG swearing up and down it was not the NGE/CU debokle that caused the games demise. It was.
No exploration in Star Trek is like no force in Star Wars.
Up until this point, the testing was fun for me, now it is really upsetting me. I think whomever came up with this idea should decide to leave the game too.
If this was my company, I would have ended that persons tenure at the job with that idea. This clearly shows that the planners here, do not actually know how to play this game or to what kind of negative impact this is going to have to people who play and explore.
I think I am going to suspend any transactions with the C-Store Until I see the complete changes come January 2012.
Spending 12 dollars or more for only 15 minutes of play a day is not cost effective for my time. I am better off paying $69.99 for a box game. Or for that matter, 8 bucks a month I can watch all the Star Trek I want.
This is a mistake!
This ends testing for me this weekend...I will be back on Monday when hopefully they figure out how stupid this is.
The game is doomed and I am glad I play Guild Wars.
Make a new Daily mission for exploration that gives dilithium
Really, they don't even need to do this.
You can only refine 8000 dilithium per day. It doesn't really matter how much you can farm, you still have to refine it. If the exploration sectors weren't dailies, you could all kinds of ore, but you'd still be limited to 8000 refined per day.
There's no need, or even much reason, to limit ore availability when refining it is still gated.
Can Feds do all the exploration clusters daily for dilithium, or just one? My char only showed rewards from Eridan Belt, but my Klingon can get Dilithium from both of their clusters at LtC. Is this intended? I'd be a lot happier if I could earn more than one cluster's worth per day.
I agree with the sentiment here. The dilithium winnings should be tied to the daily mission but not the rest of it. The great thing about exploration was that it allowed people options to do something different than they've done before. It offers a change of pace. Putting the game on the storyline rails is a bad idea and that's exactly what this option will do. Speaking of which, I hate the fact that the story arcs are on rails. My buddy and I foolishly tested a lot of content like pvp, explorations, fleet action etc. At Rear Admiral 2 we're still doing the Romulan space missions. Thankfully we get drops from our kills but alternately, we get garbage we can't hope to use from the missions that we are railed into playing on. It would be nice if they at least segmented the story arcs by Faction, so you could jump to the next Faction arc. I wonder what's going to happen to other characters of mine on Live that I didn't level through ALL the story content. Characters that have already done Infected-KA a few times, but might have missed the storyline arc. Will they be locked out of Gamma Orionis because of this? If so, that will stink. There's a reason I didn't level through the storylines all the time. I've done them all a million times! Many of the story arcs I've done 50-100 times or more just to get extra bits of equipment. If they're going to force us to farm a mission set, I don't see why Exploration farming is bad either.
Another issue, they need to give us Mk 11 Crafting options. Please don't kill crafting. For Bridge Officer training, I also really hope they don't think its okay to lock out the ability to train officers. I know a number of people who levelled up 3 characters of all 3 classes specifically to train officers for people. Cryptic will really be insulting and nullifying all their efforts if they remove this ability. Tie it to dilithium if you must but don't take away that option from people. I realize that the DOFF system needs to be implemented but I should hope it doesn't completely derail efforts of the past. I have a feeling there are players who will quit the game over t his issue. I'll be writing more on the DOFF system in the near future. It has great potential and really allows for greater nuance in all kinds of missions. For instance, Crafting an item could tie into actually earning Engineering CXP potentially. Scanning plants, Anomaly scannig and archaeological investigations could all lead to Science CXP. Diplomacy ground missions could be limited to actual diplomacy. In other words, they could more narrowly define the parameters at which Diplomacy/CXP are earned based on what is actually done in a mission As I see it, the DOFF system should dovetail into the current system, it shouldn't squash a lot of it. It certainly is a more refined way to handle a lot of the noncombat missions that the Diplomacy exp was originally meant for.
It would be nice if they at least segmented the story arcs by Faction, so you could jump to the next Faction arc.
I wouldn't be against making a 'fast forward to next theater' feature a Gold subscriber perk. I understand if they want to keep the chronology clear between various events, but most gold members will have experienced the content at least once and can just assume their current character has witnessed the appropriate events. Gives heavily invested players an incentive to pony up, but leaves everything still available for pay-as-you-wish players.
You have already set the daily refinement of dilithium ore ridiculously low. Why put a throttle on how much ore we can earn in a day as well?
"Hi, kids, guess what? We are going to set a cap on how much dilithium ore you can refine in one day AND that cap is going to be set so low that it will take you for freaking ever to get anything of value. On top of that, we are going to so severely limit your ability to earn dilithium ore that it is highly unlikely that you will ever earn enough of it to even meet that daily cap! Doesn't that sound like fun?"
While id like to say the amounts/prices will be adjusted. Reality is almost everything that gets on a test server gets pushed live with the same stats. And currently this systems pricing/earning/conversion is patheticly out of balance.
Currently we can completely out fit a ship in mk XI gear or exploration gear in a day. If anything remotely near these prices goes live we wont be able to do it in a month. And im not going to play Star trek the grind wars. I already did SWG the grind wars part 1 long ago.
And generally when you "refine" something you end up with less finished product then the raw amount you started with. So if they change the ratio to 1:3 they need to change the naming of the "refining" to something else.
More i test this stuff the more it seems to be poorly thought out and way over rushed. The doff system a lone could use a LOT of work. ATM this seems more geared to making people buy cstore points for DoFF and dilithum stuff then anything.
I am mainly a PvE and Exploration mission player, The PvE ladder system is annoying as i want to skip certian missions now i can,t and now they are ruining explorations with this system...
Cryptic you know better and us players expect better from you, time for everyone there to take a hard look at what your planning and the contriversy its creating even with most of your harden fans.

While this is true in terms of mass alone, the refined product is often many times more valuable than the ore. A couple of pounds of refined material can be worth over a thousand times the price of a single ton of ore.
Fair point. Since they didnt say it was by value/weight etc i didnt even bother thinking of it like that sadly. Ill retract my comment on the refining name. But if stuff is to be more valueable refined then maybe they should make 2 prices for items. Unrefined and refined. Or make lower quality items unrefined. aka White/greens take unrefined dilithium, and blue/purples take refined.
Would be a fair compromise to getting gear quickly and long term. You could get green gear fast 1-2 days for full ship at max rank, and say a week or 2 for top end gear at max rank. Id say leave getting full rares below max rank at 1-2 days just because those will only be used basicly while leveling. Shame to have to invest weeks of effort into low tier equipment thats religated to oblivion once you rank up.
no one is mentioning the fact that they took out ( or haven't put in yet hopefully ) the reward for aiding a planet ..... that use to be one of my favorite things was getting my little lotery ticket for a cool item for being a good generous starfleet officer, now i feel very unappreciated for my help, sure occasionally Kirk or Picards care for other cultures would result in them turning thier nose up at him but most of the time they we very grateful for the help ...
I liked the "level appropriate" award. we should get to chose between that and dilithium.
I don't so much mind them as dailys. I usually store them up on holodeck and complete them with a xp boost active. So I kinda do them as dailys live anyway.
