Why is all the new tiers have such large amounts needed? It will take weeks just to make it to tier 1 of any other than Diplomacy with the current xp rewards for the DOFF tiers and the random-ness of the missions.
I offer three quick fixes for this-
1) Remove a zero off the ends for each xp requirement.
or
2) Use the Diplomacy xp number requirements for all the other tiers as well.
or
3) Make each mission give 75-100xp minimum..
I thought this to until I just logged in and had critical success in two medical mission. Both yielded just around 550 medical xp a piece. Put me at 1100 in just one day. A few critical success and you can really rake in the xp.
We're trying to figure out the best numbers to accomplish a few different ends.
First, we want to make sure players can't cap out on a commendation category in less than a month - it should be something that provides a longterm goal.
Second, we want criticals to feel like jackpots - they should give a lot, so you really want to maximize on getting the best duty officers for each assignment.
Third, we do want the tiers to feel achievable, if something for the long haul, and not a grind, and we want each tier to have discernible, valuable rewards.
Fourth, we want the system to work for both casual players and hardcore players of the system.
Hitting all of these points is going to take some tweaking, so don't be surprised to see commendation tier point totals, commendation xp reward values, and everything else shift a lot over the weeks to come.

At my current rate, I beileve I can make T3 Medical in a month (so 2 months for T4). I think this is a good rate. Maybe 1.5 and 3 months, respecitively. However, I'm going to be exclusively focusing on Medical from this point forward because it is the fastest one to level. Other Categories are taking forever and a day to level. In a week, I have Medical at 8000 CXP, Military at 3500 CXP, Development at 2500 CXP, and everything else South of 800. The other categories either have too few assignments, or not enough long term assignments. Perhaps you can increase the number of assignments available at any one time in a sector?
Second, we want criticals to feel like jackpots - they should give a lot, so you really want to maximize on getting the best duty officers for each assignment.
In the latest build, the Crit multiplier seems to be 1.75. This doesn't feel like a lot. The Medical Relief missions go from 300 something to 500 something CXP. I think a 2.5 multiplier would be good.
Third, we do want the tiers to feel achievable, if something for the long haul, and not a grind, and we want each tier to have discernible, valuable rewards.
Related Side Question: Could you post the potential rewards of each category? For instance, Colonial missions don't interest me, but I may be tempted to invest time in them if I knew they gave out something cool that I could use.
Fourth, we want the system to work for both casual players and hardcore players of the system.
This will be impossible at some point your going to have to settle for a gap on the casual or hardcore edges of the players, but you have to try to do your best even though people will still complain from either end of the spectrum sorry.

there are 8 caterogorys... doubt anyone will have 1 tapped in under a month (maybe diplomacy)

I have been doing the doff system for about a week, I have not hit a critical success once. Critical successes SHOULD not be figured into the mix; and in fact SHOULD be removed just so some people do not get to level up faster just cause they got a lucky streak and others never do.

Personally, I like the idea of a critical success. I've only had 2 so far, but they were nice surprises when they happened.
Also, even though they are a low percentage chance (and you can improve that chance by selecting DOffs with the right attributes), given the number of missions required to level through the DOff system for each category, everyone is bound to get some eventually. Yes, there will be some lucky players who get more than others but overall I think it will even out ok in the end.
I think they should add a few zeroes to the requirements.
On tribble i'm trying to rush through the Doff system but once it hits live i don't want to be able to breeze through it all within a couple months.
Taking out crits is a bad idea, that would just make officer selection less of a requirement. It's already a simple system, we don't need it simplified and shortened even more.

You can grind Diplomacy from 0 to Ambassador in about 16 hours on Holodeck... I did it once for a fleet member's memorial service. So, yes, that one can be filled out already, and with the DOff missions it should be... marginally painless. The others, not so much.

I did that too, not for a fleet member though, I did it three times out of (apparently) pure masochism. It's certainly possible but not terribly fun to grind through it so fast.

Yeah, I'm liking the criticals. They happen rarely, so you can't really accuse them of unbalancing anything, or whatever.
But the one I had gave me half of the xp I needed to get to tier 1 of the Exploration branch.

I think these goals for the system are right on point for making it the best it can be. Number 4 is a tough one, but I think you are close. With diplomacy being so fast to get through and medical being speedy casual people get a decent pay off. Some one more hardcore about it is going to be making a lot of effort to max out trade.
So maybe with a few going fast and a few going slow you can hit both groups.
tier 4 will take for ever.... i have just got my deplomcy too 3 and that doing it only with the doff system...my medical is at 11000 or so. and my military is at 4900 or so... the wierd thing is it says i'm at tier 0 with my military when i should be tier 1.....
