You left Spacedock without a crew?

....Tuesday

Alot of people have been wishing that we got DoFFs right away.

I agree and disagree with that. I think for new players it might be too much, and at Lt. level you really don't have that kind of pull.

I think you shoulg get your 15 DoFFs once you meet with Quinn after the tutorial. The catch is is that other than recruiting missions, you won't be able to do DoFF missions until Lt. Commander.

What do you think?

I disagree, why tease a player by dangling a carrot they know they can't eat until later? An unconfirmed rumor on TTS is that they will be lowering the level it becomes active to 8 for release, which is fine. Gives new players some time to learn the basics of the game before tossing them another system to learn.

I say open it up immediately, but don't give any free crew until 12 as happens now. That way you can start recruiting your crew immediately, and if you make Lt.Cmd. 2 within the first day your free 15 crewmen will show up, but if you level more slowly you'll still get at least a few crewmen from regular recruitment before you get your "starter deck".

I think letting the buton become active at level 11, but not getting any doffs till level 12 makes no sense, all it does is cause frustration and an endless barrage of questions for the new player zones on the level of where's sulu?

A better Idea, let it unlock after completing the mission the uss azura, have some of the crew join you as doffs

The 11 and 12 issue was a last minute compromise to deal with some other issues, and was never intended as a permanent solution.

A change is in the pipeline to lower when you are alerted and get your first set of duty officers at level 8.

Sure. You've got a new player, they're already overwhelmed by the whole being a captain thing, the bridge officers, the abilities, weapons, shields, etc. Sector space looks huge to them and they don't know where to go first. Why not throw duty officers at them to confuse them further?

I think that's a good idea heretic, especially since most free to play players coming into the game are going to be sci-fi fans or people looking for a new experience from the other MMO's out there. Maybe it might be a bit confusing, but there is a difference between good confusing and bad confusing. Good confusing is knowing you just sunk your teeth into an interesting deep system, sure it's confusing but you know it's going to be kind of fun to figure it out.

Bad confusing is when the system makes no sense, has no clear method of advancing, and doesn't give you the tools to accomplish anything.

The doff system is complex, but it has the makings of a good game play addition. Adding some more missions initially, even if the rewards are minute, and reducing the time to wait, would let people learn it more fluidly, rather than in two to three day spurts.
