DOFFJOBS Channel on Tribble

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Not sure if anyone else made a channel for this yet. I made one called DOFFJOBS. Use it to post rare (blue or purple) missions when you find them. Include at least the sector and what type of mission it is; what DOFFs and resources are required to start it would also be helpful. Also post names of planetary systems that currently have jobs available.

Also, if you're new to the DOFF system and trying to figure out what to do or how it all works, check out Hevach's excellent Doffs for Doofuses thread.

I tip my hat to you, sir.

    Or, I would.

    If I had a hat.

I'll be back after I go get a hat, so I can tip it to you.

As far as I know, anyone in a given sector at a given time will see the same catalog of jobs, yes. I think more jobs open up depending on your captain's level (and maybe depending on what tier you have reached, and on completing certain "unlock" missions like "Survey Colony Site" . . . I don't think anyone has yet figured out all these wrinkles).

I verified this with Engineering this morning. Shipboard assignments are unique to you; sector assignments are common to everyone, though you will not see assignments that are out of your level band.

    will [wil]
    • auxiliary verb and verb, present singular 1st person will, 2nd will or (Archaic) wilt, 3rd will, present plural will; past singular 1st person would, 2nd would or (Archaic) wouldst, 3rd would, past plural would; past participle (Obsolete) wold or would; imperative, infinitive, and pres. participle lacking.
    • auxiliary verb
      1. am (is, are, etc.) about or going to: I will be there tomorrow. She will see you at dinner.

People are currently seeing assignments out of their level band. Heretic is saying you will not see them. (ie, going to at some point in the future, probably after a patch or something)

Correct. Contrary to what people are observing right now, you will not (ie, are not going to) see those assignments that are over-leveled for you in the future.

Which makes replying "wtf I'm seeing those right now!" like people are doing just ridiculous.

Actually no time frame is given here. The implication is you should not be seeing the missions above you now. So the statements of "I'm seeing missions above my level" are justifiable remarks as they are pointing out a possible bug (since Heretic's statement clearly implies that the missions should not be seen). Therefore, pointing out to people what is or isn't the operative words in the statement is unnecessary, the implication is clear.

Also, your original statement (as I believe may have been pointed) was incorrect. Will is not the operative word, will not is the operative phrase. If you ignore the change of meaning that the "not" provides it would change the entire statement. If you do chose to correctly or incorrectly point out such a thing in the future, be sure you include all the information necessary to ensure a clear and correct statement.

This channel has enough traffic now that it's clear it will be heavily used on Live. So I created separate DOFFJOBS-FED and DOFFJOBS-KDF channels for faction specific jobs. For the moment there is probably not enough traffic to use the separate channels on Tribble. After F2P launch, the original DOFFJOBS will remain as an open disccuss / help / chat line, and the faction channels will probably be restricted to posting assignments only, with no off-topic chat.

For now DOFFJOBS remains open for discussion and job posting for both factions, and anyone on Tribble wanting to figure out how DOFFs work is welcome to join.
