May I ask what you found to critique in the leveling system? Fast/slow? Perhaps the mission order?
All of the above.
No rewards for doing low level exploration missions. This means you are at the mercy of the loot drop gods, and quite frankly, they suck. I havent gotten anything worth putting on my ship, usually of lower quality then what i have.
Crafting, well, lets just say, dont bother until its fixed.
Game seems more of a grind.,
Dev posted on one of the threads that it is intentional that you dont get enough dilithium during your missions to make up for the difference you need for your tier ship. They want you to have to grind for enough new currency to purchase your ship.
Seems like there is more loading screens then before( my personal pet peeve)
Based on the information currently available, and the level of dev feedback, I think this is a smart move.
One heck of a thing to do if you've got more than a couple of characters, but it's the smart choice.
Reason?
Levelling on rails, dilithium,c-store reqs, reward availability, crafting, etc etc.
I'll probably pursue this COA with my core characters.

They have said they want to put in crafting "specialties" at some point, what they seem to have done (only able to craft odd-mk items) seems to me might be step one of that, everyone can craft basic things, then specialists can craft even-mk gear.
Game seems more of a grind.,
Really? I'm getting the exact opposite, I've gotten pretty much 1 grade / story mission up to Commander 5 so far.

No, the devs said that they expect that if you do a reasonable amount of stuff outside the main storyline missions to earn Dilithium, you should have enough by the time you level that what they give you will cover the new ship. They've also said that what they give you when you level right now is lower than it's supposed to be.
The only thing I find annoying is that while the missions all level with you, so even if you get some levels from something else (the Fed Mirrior events are amazing XP) the mobs in the level are still the same level as you, but the rewards for the missions don't scale along with that. So you put in the effort to beat commander level monsters, and get Lieutenant level gear for rewards.

Still think the game is not being turned into a grind fest? if so, you need to actually play on tribble some more. All STO is on Tribble now is a grind., for everything.
